Land in Kessel

Almost 1.5 hectares of forest, water and meadows and a cozy holiday home are at your private disposal. Your dog is also welcome. With excellent WiFi thanks to the fiber optic connection (5G). Hidden between sixty-year-old trees is a comfortable holiday home for up to 6 people with a wood-burning stove and sunny conservatory.

If you are looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings, then this is your place. From the veranda you look out over a pond and you can hear the frogs croaking at dusk. When the weather is nice, you can have fun outside on your own jeu de boules court or row on the pond. When it gets colder, you also have a beautiful view from inside the sunny conservatory. Or warm up by the wood stove after a refreshing walk in the nearby Heldense forests or the Leudal nature park. Your children and dog can play and romp outside to their heart's content.

Het Land in Kessel is about a 1 ½ hour drive from Utrecht. You can enjoy walking and cycling not only through extensive forests and meadows, but also along the Maas, including on marked cycle paths. Culture lovers will also get their money's worth here, for example with a visit to the rebuilt castle in the village of Kessel aan de Maas, the white town of Thorn, the monastery village of Steyl or the Limburg Museum in Venlo. For the children, there are nice amusement parks and playgrounds nearby.

My name is Joyce Pennings. You are most welcome at the Land Kessel that we rent since the spring of 2009 as a holiday home. My father inherited this piece of land from my grandmother more than fifty years ago. With my mother he made a paradise piece of land with beautiful trees, grassland and a lake. They built a very characteristic house with the help of a friend. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Additional information

My name is Joyce Pennings. In the photo you see my father, mother and eldest son on the land that we have been renting out as a holiday home since the spring of 2009. My father inherited this piece of land from my grandmother fifty years ago. Because he was the youngest, he was given the worst piece of land that could not be rented because of a hole in the middle that was always flooded.

He turned necessity into a virtue. The hole was dug into a pond with an island in the middle and with the help of the Heidemij he planted many trees and sowed grass for ponies to graze on. He built a simple house that was gradually expanded and embellished. Frans van den Berg, a painter friend from Thorn, drew the design for the house. He also built the wall with the fireplace with my father. They also incorporated various old building materials from the village of Kessel into this house.

We have enjoyed the country and the house with family and friends for years. In the summer we swam in the pond and in the winter we learned to skate there. We have held many parties and sleepovers there. When my parents moved here in 1990 - after their retirement - their group of friends met here every week to play pétanque and of course for drinks afterwards. My children who grew up in Utrecht had a place here to do things that are not possible in a big city, such as building huts and mud fights. My mother taught them how to drive a car here. Kessel is still a household name for countless friends from Utrecht.

After the death of my father and mother, we decided to keep the Land in the family and rent it out as a holiday home. We hope you will enjoy the house and the Country as much as we have over the past fifty years.
Self we also love to Kessel, sometimes in one day up and down from Utrecht (a drive of 1.5 hours). What attracts us is the absolute peace, quiet and complete privacy. The house is located in an area of ??nearly 1.5 ha of forest, water and pasture. There are always great places to go in or out of the sun to enjoy the beautiful trees and water views. Kessel and surrounding nature and culture is what concerns very attractive. The landscape is already gently sloping, but fortunately it is not (yet) as popular as South Limburg. But mostly we are not off the Land, which for many of our guests are.
Once the weather permits we sit on the veranda overlooking the pond. At night it is great to a fire and around the fireplace to sit by the water.
Partly due to the use of old building materials, the house has an authentic and warm appearance. What also makes the house special is that painter Frans van den Berg from Thorn built and painted a wall with a fireplace in the living room. The house consists of a ground floor (123 m2), an outdoor veranda (18 m2) and a loft (35 m2) on the first floor. Smoking is not allowed in the house.

House layout:
• Outside veranda: with wooden floor and seating area.
• Living room: wooden floor and sitting area with sofas in front of the fireplace.
• Conservatory: tiled floor (with underfloor heating), spacious dining area and TV lounge area. The conservatory has a large glass front with sliding doors. The conservatory and the living room form one large semi-open space, separated by an interior wall for the TV seating area.
• Semi-open kitchen: tiled floor, gas stove with electric oven, microwave, refrigerator (without freezer), dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and extensive kitchen equipment. Coffee maker, Senseo and espresso machine available. Extra refrigerator (with freezer) in the green house next to the big house.
• Bathroom: Shower, sink and toilet.
• A double bedroom with a double bed (Auping, with anti-allergic duvets and a cot with a 120 X 60 mattress (bring your own bedding for this).
• A double bedroom with two large single Vspring mattresses with anti-allergic duvets and its own sink.
• The loft is accessible via a fixed staircase and consists of two alcoves and a number of open areas. Due to the sloping walls, adults have to bend over for the most part. The loft is in open connection with the ground floor; This means you can hear the sounds from downstairs in the loft. In one of the two alcoves there are two single beds with anti-allergic duvets.
• The rest of the loft is furnished as a play attic with cushions, Duplo, Lego and books.
The site consists of almost 1.5 hectares of forest, water and meadow. In the middle there is a pond with an island. Surrounding it are more than sixty year old oaks, chestnuts, walnut trees, birch, larch, weeping willows, poplars, plane trees, bald cypresses and firs. When the pond is completely full, the water is more than one meter deep.

You have the entire site at your private disposal. The nearest farm in the area is about 300 meters away.
You can use the following facilities free of charge in the house and on the estate:
• Central heating; the conservatory is also equipped with underfloor heating.
• Flat screen TV, DVD player (with many DVDs) and radio/CD player.
• Complete kitchen including oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
