Huize Middendorp, a beautiful holiday home, is located on the border of the Veluwe and the Achterhoek. The farmhouse - a national monument from 1841 - is the perfect place to spend a holiday for families and groups of friends. The holiday home is spacious, fully equipped and, if the weather permits, you can sit outside. There is a lot to do in the area in all seasons: walking, cycling, visiting cities, swimming, going to an (amusement) park, zoo, eating out and much more.
Huize Middendorp is located in Ellecom. It consists of a permanently inhabited part and a holiday home with its own entrance. Guests have two bedrooms as standard. A third bedroom can be expanded, allowing up to seven guests to stay.
Downstairs
The large living room (65m2) is completely new but has retained the old style elements of the 180 year old house. The authentic beams from the old barn have remained beautifully visible. There are two nice sitting areas: one with a television and one near the large partial doors with a view of the terrace and orchard. There is a large bookcase and a games cabinet and there is well-functioning WiFi. There is also a kitchen with hob, combination microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and crockery. There is a toilet in the private hall.
Upstairs
A staircase in the hall leads to the first floor. Here are two bedrooms and a third that can be booked optionally. 'De Linde' owes its name to the more than one hundred year old lime tree that stands at the back of the estate. The room has a double bed with separate duvets, a spacious closet and a seating area. The room has a private bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. The second room, 'De Rode Beuk', overlooks the more than hundred year old beech. This room has the same layout and facilities as the other room. The third room has a bunk bed and a single bed. This room can be booked separately, so that more than four people can stay in the holiday home. All rooms open onto the same hall, have underfloor heating and wireless internet also works well upstairs. Bringing a pet is possible in consultation.
Outside
The French doors open onto the terrace. From there you can also walk straight into the fruit orchard, where you can play badminton, play boules and have a picnic at the picnic table. There is also the barn where you can sit under cover if it is too hot outside. There is also a closed bicycle shed and a private parking space behind the farm for your car.
Veluwezoom and Achterhoek
The Veluwezoom is the largest contiguous forest in the Netherlands. From Huize Middendorp it is a few minutes' walk to the entrance to the forest. Dozens of bird species live here, wild boars, foxes, red deer, roe deer, wolves, badgers and (pine) martens. There are walking paths and cycle paths and there are also all kinds of activities organized by Natuurmonumenten all year round. In the other direction lies the scenic landscape of the Achterhoek and the floodplains of the IJssel. Cycling and walking are also nice here.
Walking, cycling, swimming and sailing
Various walking and cycling routes have been set out through the forests of the Veluwezoom. The famous Posbank is five kilometers away with beautiful views over the heathlands of the Veluwezoom. In the autumn there are vantage points in various places on the Veluwezoom where bellowing red deer can be seen. In the area you can also sail on lakes and swim in natural water.
Ellecom
Huize Middendorp is, as the name suggests, in the middle of the village. It is one of the oldest houses. The village is easy to reach by public transport and by car. Opposite the holiday home is Samberg, a bakery with all kinds of other foodstuffs. The village is located close to several arterial roads and is also easily accessible by public transport. From IC station Dieren (2km from the house) bus 43 goes to Ellecom. On request we pick up and drop off our guests from the station.
(Dining out
There are two restaurants in Ellecom itself and there are also plenty of dining options in the area. From a lunch café in the middle of the forest to an old, atmospheric monastery in nearby Doesburg. There is a list of our restaurant tips in the holiday home. There are several supermarkets and an organic store in Dieren.
(Family) outings
There are several swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) in the area. You can also visit many different museums and parks, such as the Open Air Museum, Burgers' Zoo, the Water Museum and the toy museum. In Apeldoorn (half an hour's drive) there is a large outdoor swimming pool and a climbing park. A beautiful steam train runs between Dieren and Apeldoorn and in Dieren itself there is a very large outdoor playground and a vineyard. Middachten Castle is located just outside Ellecom.
