Holiday house

Between Westerbork and Orvelte is recreation park De Oostermaat. There are no asphalt roads, no lampposts, but many trees, birds and tranquility. Natuurhuis De Specht is a bungalow for 6 people. Pets are also welcome!

De Specht was built in 2004. In the house are 3 bedrooms, each with a box spring combination. In November 2024, the bathroom in the house was completely renovated. With a lovely spacious shower with 3 separately operated shower heads, a hanging toilet and a spacious sink with base cabinet.
Furthermore, the well-equipped kitchen also has a washing machine and dryer.

The house is cosily furnished. It is located on a cul-de-sac at the recreation park. From our house you can walk straight into the forest and onto the large field to Orvelte. Great to go hiking or mountain biking from here.

Hi, I'm Annemarie. I am married to Roeland and together we have a nice teenage son, Paul. Roeland and I both grew up in the North. Roeland in Groningen, me in Drenthe. We wanted a place closer to our family where we could go once in a while. Roeland works as a city marketer in Kampen and as park manager of the Lage Weide industrial estate in Utrecht. Unfortunately, I have to take it very easy because of post-covid...

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

From Natuurhuis De Specht you can quickly reach the forest or the heath. Breathe in fresh air in a quiet, but varied environment!

De Specht is located at recreation park De Oostermaat. The park De Oostermaat is one of the few places where recreation is still about peace, nature and beautiful views of the Drenthe landscape. No asphalt or lampposts here, but peace and darkness.

The park is located just outside Westerbork. This beautiful village has all amenities and various catering establishments. In the village you will find two supermarkets (Jumbo and Lidl) and bakeries for a delicious brunch (Jordy Schepers and bakery Pepping), but also nice clothing and home accessory shops. Puur Wassen department store is worth a visit: here you will find an organic supermarket, a large cooking department and a department with household items and toys.

Follow the Milky Way path past the impressive telescopes of the Radio Observatory Westerbork;
Everyone knows Camp Westerbork from the Second World War. But did you know that Moluccans lived in the barracks for years afterwards?
Orvelte is sometimes referred to as a 'living history book' and 'the primeval village' of Drenthe. We think it is a very special museum village that is definitely worth a visit!;
Near the Hunebedcentrum in Borger is the largest hunebed in the Netherlands. At the Hunebedcentrum you can also see how the Hondsrug region was formed by ice ages. Here you will learn all about Neanderthals, reindeer hunters, dolmen builders and Iron Age farmers.
