De brink is the leafy center of the village where you can enjoy some beautiful farms and other old and restored buildings. Characteristic of Dwingeloo is the Siepel, the unique and beautiful onion-shaped tower of the Dutch Reformed Church, which you can see from afar. Another special feature is the image of the lady of Batinghe, who looks longingly at the Siepel while awaiting the client. The area surrounding the village requires exploration. In a beautiful landscape with great care for nature conservation you will find beautiful walking, cycling and horse riding opportunities. You can enjoy the varied landscape of the Dwingelderveld, the area with National Park status that is characterized by forests, heathland and fens. It is Europe's largest wet heathland where countless rare plants and animals occur. The Dwingelderveld is freely accessible and there are also good routes for the disabled. To really enjoy that natural environment, you should not use motorized transport, but explore the area on foot, by bike or perhaps even on horseback. In Dwingeloo you can rent bicycles, horses, covered wagons and even ultramodern means of transport such as segways to make beautiful trips. Dwingeloo is also known for the world-famous Astron Observatory. Located on the edge of the heathland in Dwingelderveld National Park, the enormous radio telescope bears witness to the quest that Astron makes in the universe. Dwingeloo is a characteristic rural municipality, where you can still enjoy and relax undisturbed. Dwingeloo has many nice terraces and eateries.
