Additional information

Introduction The Peloponnese peninsula (Greek: Pelopónnisos or Pelopónissos) is located south of Athens. The name Peloponnese means 'island of Pelops'. According to ancient myths, Pelops is a god's son who ruled this area in times long gone.Peloponnese, with its 250 km in length and width, is two and a half times the size of Crete, and about half the size of the Netherlands, and has about 1.1 million inhabitants. Quote from the Dutch lunar magazine 'Reizen' January 2005: 'The Peloponnese has everything you could wish for: both rugged and lovely nature, attractive towns and villages, enormous historical wealth, beautiful beaches and a pleasant climate for a large part of the year. . There are few more pleasant holiday destinations. Quote from the website of Greece expert Matt Barett UK: The Peloponnese; heart and soul of Greece. Much has been written and said about the beautiful Greek islands. Although lost in the feelings about Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Corfu, the fact is that most of the beautiful and interesting places in Greece are not the islands but on the mainland, especially the Peloponnese. For many, the Peloponnese is the true Greece and has more visit value than 10 combined islands! '………………… ..

Messinia The region (department / nomi) Messinia, of which Pilia is our working area, covers the most south-west part of the Peloponnese. The mild climate and many hours of sunshine ensure an extremely fertile landscape. Trees and plants bloom abundantly here. Vast sandy beaches and rocky coasts alternate. Together with the mountainous hinterland, which has many similarities with Toscana with its iconic cypress trees, they provide a beautiful piece of paradise on earth! The quaint villages with their friendly and hospitable residents complete the relaxed rustic atmosphere. Messinia has the mildest climate on the Greek mainland. The months of November to February are roughly comparable to the climate in Tunisia and Algeria. During this period, the landscape gains in beauty with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains and clear skies. In the period from mid-November to the end of December, about 60% of the total annual rainfall normally falls. April and May are undoubtedly the most beautiful months when many plants and trees are in bloom, the sea is usually warm enough for swimming, and many a mountain top is still covered in snow. Anyone staying here in summer at temperatures of around 30 ° C can hardly imagine that the Peloponnese is an excellent area for winter sports enthusiasts. Between mid-December and the end of March, if there is enough snow, there are two winter sports centers where skis and other equipment can be rented. One of them is located at an altitude of 1600 meters in the Ménalon Mountains between Trípoli and Vytína and is open on weekends.
Finikounda about 630 inwonersHet Finikounda vibrant fishing village is nestled between beautiful vineyards, citrus trees and olive groves. Quote from one of our Belgian customers which defines the area on arrival: The deep blue sea and the islands do your typical contrast-giving fatigue quickly forgotten. the whole I would describe as a mix of Azuurkust (but with clear water), Tuscan countryside and villages with typical Greek taverns and sycamore trees where they even still the beast of burden, the donkey met. Both the Greeks and to foreigners, this is a very popular seaside resort. At the taverna "Elena" at the harbor and the beach you can enjoy the local specialty: grilled sardines stuffed with mint and garlic!
Koroni approximately 1,670 inwonersKóroni, one of the most beautiful coastal towns of the Peloponnese, located at the westernmost tip of the peninsula. The fortified town is nestled in a green landscape with many vineyards and cypresses. From this picturesque village overlooks the upper fortress and monastery. At the picturesque port you will find a number of cozy taverns. Recommended for a relaxing Greek vislunch! On the other side of the hill there is the extensive Zaga Beach.
Methóni approximately 1,200 inwonersMethóni and Koroni are also called "the eyes of Venice '. The medieval town Methóni is therefore founded by the Venetians. With its white-painted houses and red roofs and, of course, the impressive Venetian fortress Bourtzi the imposing tower from 1209, the nostalgia is omnipresent. Just below the walls of this mighty fortress, you can sunbathe and enjoy the relaxed Greek atmosphere.
Pylos approximately 2,500 inwonersDit idyllic harbor town situated in the bay of Navarino. The view is breathtaking as you enter the city! The elongated island Sfaktiria is impressive and protective of the bay, forming one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean. The cozy harbor of Pylos has a cozy square with two enormous plane trees where you can relax and enjoy Greek life on and around the square.
GialovaAan the north side of the Navarino bay is the Voidokili - bay also known as "Omega-beach" called. This bay is bordered by one of the finest beaches in Greece, kilometers of fine sandy beaches backed by high dunes. In strong wind makes the waves in the narrow passage to open sea is a breathtaking spectacle! The traditional village Gialova seems as if time has stood still. In the taverns, traditional Greek dishes and you can unadulterated Greek everyday life aanschouwen.Citaat from the 'Magazine' an annex to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad 'herein are the 10 most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean Sea were described:' Even in high season you can find peace in this paradise. Voidokili Pylos / Gialova a beach in the form of the Greek letter omega. The water is calm, shallow and bright blue. And best of all: there are (still) no large tourist centers nearby. This rare combination makes the bay of Voidokili one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean. Until a few years it was a hidden paradise for those traveling by motorhome on the Peloponnese went ..... "
Evangelismos. The villa has fantastic views over the azure Ionian sea with offshore islands and is located atop a hill within the village limits of the village of Evangelismos. In the village Evangelismos are 2 taverns and 1 small super makt. There is also a tavern in the village of Kamaria (about 1 kilometer from Evangelismos). Evangelismos is situated between the picturesque fishing village and the village Methoni Finikounda. The harbor town Finikounda is approximately 3 kilometers away and has supermarkets, shops and many restaurants, most of the terrace directly at sea. Methoni with its imposing Venetian castle lies approximately 7 kilometers from Kamaria. You find supermarkets, shops, a good butcher and restaurants and tavernas. Olympia, Sparta, Tripoli, Mistras, the palace of King Nestor, it all belongs to the possibilities for a day trip. Pylos, the nearest large town is 17 km from Evangelismos removed and the area is located about 50 km southwest of the airport Kalamata.
Besides the sights, there is a range of possibilities to do. Sailing or surfing at Alpha Sailing Finikounda. Kalamata is a rental cabin sailing yachts (28 to 45 feet) Mountain bikes are available for rent and there is also the opportunity to ride horses. Walks along the beautiful bays or just doing nothing and lying on the beach. Are you looking for traffic, crowds, luxury shopping streets, crowded beaches, parking, cinemas and traffic we can not help you. The nearest stoplight is 60 miles away. What we have to offer is: Peaceful, spacious, cozy taverns, pizzerias, shops where you can do groceries, a few disco and of course the most beautiful bays with beautiful beaches and the sunniest weather in Europe.
RouteHoe get there? By car: Is the distance from Amsterdam to Messinia about 3,000 km. (Is similar to southern Spain or southern Portugal) Combination of car / ferry: Distance Nijmegen Ancona is about 1,580 km. www.superfast.comwww.minoan.grwww.anek.grwww.greekferries.gr The latter is a useful site for the crossing quick and easy to book and price comparisons carried out between the various ferries, you can also opt for the bar top the Dutch versie.Venetie Patras Ancona Patras Bari Patras Patras drive from the harbor in about 3.5 hours to Finikounda (distance is ca.260 km). North Exit follow Ancona Patras ferry pictogram.Afslag number 5 end away from port to the left about 800 meters Gate I.Per plane: Amsterdam Athens Athens www.klm.comAmsterdam http://www.olympicairlines.comAmsterdam www.swiss.com NEW Amsterdam Athens Kalamata Thessaloniki during the season is not known whether sufficient connecting flights. http://www.olympicairlines.comDüsseldorf Athens www.aegeanairlines.gr Keul. / Bonn Athens Athens www.germanwings.comBrussel www.brusselsairlines.com Brussels Araxos / Patras www.jetairfly.com The flights to Kalamata and Araxos / Patras only during the holiday season (April / May to October). You can fly directly from Amsterdam to Kalamata and a seat only in books: www.polyplan.nlwww.sudtours.nlwww.arke.nl www.hotelplan.nlHet throughout the year, there are daily flights to Athens. For great fly is advisable to look at the low cost airlines which regularly offers hebben.www.swiss.com from Amsterdam from Brussels www.brusselsairlines.com www.germanwings.com from Cologne / Bonnwww.aegeanairlines.gr from Düsseldorf Meanwhile, experience shows that www.germanwings.com one of the better options in price and also because the departure and arrival times are favorable from the Athens airport. Limitation may be that this company flies from Cologne / Bonn which is not convenient for everyone in terms of distance. Furthermore www.swiss.com from Amsterdam is a good choice for people who live in Randstad region. The disadvantage is that these flights have a stopover but the price is certainly attractive! To hire a car in Greece from the airport we have good experience with auto-europe (good value) you should consider prior to hire over the Internet, appears to be cheaper as a spot to rent! www.autoeurope.nl Another advantage is if enough cars are available often free up-grade is offered! At the Athens airport you can find car rental in Europe from National. From the airport drive in Kalamata to Koroni about 50 minutes or Pylos. From the airport Araxos / Patras drive in about 3 hours to Pylos. From the Athens airport in about 4 hours drive to Pylos and Koroni. From 2010, the highway Athens to Kalamata in its entirety ready. Now the road to Tripolis. This will shorten the travel time of approximately 40-60 minutes. Driving from Athens airport: If you are driving down the airport, then follow the highway signs to Elefsina, Korinthos / Patras you should at least have the E94. Please also note that 3x toll to be paid on the first section of the highway. Despite it being relatively small, amounting to € 7.60, so it is easy to get some coins have a release ready for the trip to run smoothly. Beyond direction Korinthos NOT Patra Tripoli but the E65 persist! Beyond Tripoli to highway and then turns into a two lane road and then follow Kalamata well stated, but it geslinger starts now and the shoot not really in time (according to the "Greek planning" is this highway in its entirety ready to Kalamata in 2010). Something for Kalamata arrived at the traffic lights turn right towards the airport, and Messinia Pylos. You are now on a long wide road, you pass the airport of Kalamata installed and drive all the way out to the roundabout and then follow the signs and Messinia Pylos. In the village Rizomilos follow the road to Pylos (or if you go to Koroni, turn left here). The last part of the ride, as you drive towards Pylos and occasionally catch a glimpse of the sea, the landscape starts to get a glamorous beauty try to enjoy this despite the fatigue of this car! From Pylos hold in the large square Methoni and Methoni weather just before exit Finikounda. Kalo Taxidi (a good way)! Quote from the Consumer Guide No. 1 - January 2006 author Kees Verplanke: Around Peloponnese: in the wake of the Greek Peloponnese goden.De was one of the first destinations where people went to the remnants of the ancient Greek civilization to be admired. Nevertheless, even today barely mass tourism. Most visitors drive to relax with their rental car from excavation to excavation. For an overdose, you do not worry, the characteristic Peninsula has plenty of other charms ... Where ever you are, there you are!
