Finis Hortorum

The large house Finis Hortorum in Rians has played an important role in our family, and it is still an important meeting place for all family members, from young to old.

The large garden offers plenty of space to enjoy the view, sun and the cool swimming pool. There is a table tennis table and jeux de boule court for the active.

All five bedrooms (2p) have air conditioning and a private bathroom. A very well-equipped kitchen, plenty of crockery and high-quality glassware guarantee pleasant meals at the long table (indoors or outdoors).

Rians is a small town on the edge of Provence. The center of the picturesque town is within walking distance of Finis Hortorum and has all desirable facilities, supermarkets, church, restaurants, bakeries.

We work with a Covid Protocol for our cleaners, suppliers and also ask our guests to adhere to the applicable rules.

Hello, I am the middle girl of our family, together with my brother, sister and father we built Villa Pöle as a family house, on the shores of Lake Balaton. We all have great memories of our holidays in Hungary: swimming, cycling and having fun with our friends in the Hungarian sun. Now adults, our children collect the same kinds of memories again. Holiday homes have now been added to our collection in France, Germany and the Netherlands.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

The modest village of Rians is located in a rolling Provencal hilly landscape at the very tip of the Var where four departments cross: Bouches du Rhone, the Vaucluse, the Alpes de Haute-Provence and the Var. This lovely region has hardly been discovered by tourism. Villages in a picturesque location, squashed against a hill, which is called Villages Perchés. There is even a route along these traditionally built mountain villages in Provence. The characteristic houses, the old cozy village center with a central square and fountain, the narrow criss-crossed narrow alleys revive the time of days gone by. Rians, small but nice, with all necessary facilities, several hot bakers, supermarkets, gas station, gym, swimming pool, church, local events such as multi-colored exhibitions and the annual pumpkin market.
High above Rians, the imposing church towers on the ground that has been home to a house of God since 1092. Since then, the church has been enlarged three times, most recently in the 19th century, even making a residential neighborhood sacrificed for it, making the road to it more accessible! The 18 stained glass windows provide a diffused light and the main altar is decorated with beautiful carvings made of walnut. The 7 side altars are made of marble. The beautiful walnut statue of Maria van Nazareth from 1340 was miserably stolen in 1999, but replaced by an oak copy made by monks from Bethlehem. The impressive entrance doors are made of Russian oak. Worth seeing is the old city gate, the numerous fountains and the oratoires - simple praying sites of yesteryear - that surround the village. Olives, melons, sunflowers and pumpkins, the crops that traditionally belong in Provence, are well represented and provide the varied landscape around us. Do you want to know more? The tourist office, where you can get extensive information, is located in a 15th century grain warehouse in the middle of the village.
Wine This is a fascinating region for wine lovers. Rians is situated between eight wine domains, all of which produce excellent wines and can of course be visited. You can also taste the wines. You certainly will not return home without a beautiful Provencal wine. Near Rians • Chateau Vignelaure • Chateau Revelette • Domaine des Toulons • Domaine la Realtiere • Abbaye de St. Hilaire • Chapelle de Ste. Bacchi • Chateau Pigoudet • Domaine AIX
In the vicinity of Rians there are 4 golf courts. Booking is easy by telephone or email. Costs are comparable to Dutch golf courses. The golf court usually has a good restaurant.
Taradeau (35 min.) A donkey ramble led by a winery with stops for a glass of white wine with pain d'epices, halfway a picnic with goat cheese and you will certainly go home with nougat and honey for sale along the way! Then relax again After the relaxation and experience of all these trips it is nice to relax in Finis Hortorum and the slow rhythm of the Provence returns!
Aix en Provence This lively student city, very popular with the French, is the city of Cezanne and is half an hour away. (A Dutch-speaking Frenchman works at the Office de Tourisme) Every day there is a Provencal market on the beautiful square in front of the Hotel de Ville in the historic center. The nearby busy shopping streets contain many chic boutiques. Almost all of them lead to the most beautiful boulevard in Provence: the Cours Mirabeau. Take a terrace and enjoy the plane trees, fountains and beautiful houses across the street that still carry the grandeur of yore. Visit the Musee Granet or the Cezanne Workshop. A bus runs daily from Jouques to Aix. In the summer there is a music festival for a month.
If desired, the chef of the cooking studio from a neighboring village in Finis Hortorum can give a workshop to your group.
How about ... a sporty morning with a Personal Trainer in the vicinity of Finis Hortorum .... but it is also possible to make an appointment with the yoga teacher from Rians to have a private yoga session for your group. give to the edge of the pool.
visit the chateau and buy the wine of your choice, the wines of this chateau have received several medals.
learn from experienced instructors the how and why of flying with drones
