Gîte / Cottage

Holiday home with private pool in the South of France

Between Lauzerte and Montaigu de Quercy, on a quiet dead-end road, Las Gardes is an authentic ensemble of two separate gites, the largest of which we offer as a summer house to rent for your holidays. The smaller house is used by ourselves, but when we rent the gîte we live in the nearby town of Lauzerte, so you have the realm to yourself. The site is one hectare and largely flat, making it ideal for sporting activities such as badminton or football. The gite has its own swimming pool of 10 x 5 meters that is well sheltered from view (but whose?) and gives complete privacy. Part of the site consists of an orchard with (mainly) cherry and nut trees and gives a leafy view of a small valley and the rolling countryside. Apart from the occasional visit of a badger, owl, bat, fox or roe deer, the yard and land of the gite las Gardes mainly have a soothing tranquility.

The gite consists of a spacious living room with double French doors giving access to a well-sheltered, intimate courtyard of approximately 50 m2 and adjoins a directly adjacent bedroom of approximately 9 m2 containing a double bed and wardrobe, a second bedroom of 24 m2 containing three single beds and a third bedroom of 16 m2 with a double bed. The two latter bedrooms also each have double French doors that give direct access to the private property.

An old stable of more than 40 m2 now serves as a kitchen diner and is therefore certainly spacious enough for eight people, but is only equipped with basic facilities. This space, as it is so beautifully called in France, has remained entirely 'dans son jus' and its original function is therefore still recognizable, for example through the presence of ancient stable tiles and the equally old beams that support the roof. In principle, all rooms are 'ground floor', but the differences in level in the site in the form of stone steps and steps can also be found in the house and make the house not very suitable for use of a wheelchair or walker. The house is essentially L-shaped and forms with our other house a sheltered and intimate courtyard oriented to the sunny south. Around the house and by the pool there is a wide range of (lounge) chairs and tables so that - if the weather cooperates - you can always find a place in the sun or in the shade. The other house is in use with us, but never during the rental of the holiday home and your privacy and exclusive use of the pool are therefore completely guaranteed. We have kept the unrest of wifi, TV, satellite dishes and cable connection out of our holiday home and for that reason the gite is probably not suitable for everyone….

The Quercy Blanc is located in the south-west of France, divided over the departments of Lot and Tarn et Garonne. a friendly, undulating and varied landscape, crisscrossed with rivers and streams and decorated with many villages and small towns that have preserved their medieval origin exceptionally well. Such as Montaigu de Quercy with its beautiful belfry and lively market (Saturday), Montcuq with an equally cheerful market (Sunday) and imposing keep from the twelfth century, the fortified towns of Tournon dAgenais and Lauzerte, bastides with beautiful central squares such as Monflanquin, Villereal, Castelnau de Montratier and Auvillar, but also Penne d'Agenais, Roquecor, Beauville, Lacour-de-Visa, Puymirol, Puylaroque and Bruniquel (etc., etc.) are lively witnesses of a great past . The region has not been affected by mass tourism that has left deep traces in the more northerly Dordogne. The Quercy Blanc is sometimes called the French Tuscany, or also une autre Provence. With Tuscany and the other Provence, Quercy Blanc can in any case enjoy a sunny and pleasant climate.

Our gte was originally a 'by-catch' at a smaller house that we bought eighteen years ago. In 2016 we fell in love with a medieval house on the central village square of nearby Lauzerte (Quercy) and we decided to rent out the renovated gte in the season and a B&B and a shop in Lauzerte in the summer months (au Coin Perdu ) to start. A (still) part-time version of 'I'm leaving'..
