Gîte les Sources du Château

We welcome you to our holiday home In Couches. Located opposite the Château, you have access to a fully furnished house with all facilities including a spacious bathroom, dishwasher, microwave, Airfryer, WiFi, television and a bbq.

This beautiful house with courtyard with veranda and garden at the back was built with the stones from the Château and is also a monument. The authentic wooden beams create a cozy atmosphere, while the temperature is low on hot days due to the thick walls. Within walking distance you will find shops and restaurants in the pleasant town of Couches.
In the area you will find all possibilities for swimming, walking, cycling, fishing, visiting the beautiful villages and medieval towns or one of the wineries in the area.

The medieval town of Couches is dominated by the Château of Marguerite de Bourgogne. This is ~100 meters from the house. Other historic buildings include Le Prieuré St Georges, La Tour Majole & Tour Guerin, La Maison des Templiers, the old Hopital and the Menhirs of Epoigny from about 5000 years ago.

Additional information

Margaret of Burgundy The castle hides a secret: Margaret of Burgundy is said to have died in this castle. She was smuggled into the castle by her cousin Marie and lived there until her death in 1333. Everything in the deepest secret and there is therefore no evidence to confirm the story. In any case, according to the history books, it is not correct. Margaret was imprisoned in Normandy for adultery and died there in 1315. True or false: the story earned the castle the nickname 'château de Marguerite de Bourgogne'. An hour-long guided tour leads past keep, gothic chapel and the justice tower. This tower, La tour de justice, is attached to the chapel and shows a collection of weapons and the hall of the guards. An underground storage space is visible on the ground floor through a grid. It looks more like a dungeon. Perhaps the space was used for that too. During the tour you will also take a look at the underground corridors that connect the different buildings. Stock storage was the main function of the underground spaces so that it could be broadcast for a while at the castle. The underground corridors also lead to the entrance to the wine cellars. Of course, a tasting of the wines is possible, the castle is surrounded by vineyards for a reason. Finally, the tour takes you through the gardens with flowers, aromatic plants and shrubs trimmed in various animal shapes. The castle has been owned by Patricia and Olivier Poelaert since 2009. They have invested heavily in the castle and organize all kinds of activities: concerts, medieval parties, walks, children's activities etc. Successfully, because the number of visitors has increased tenfold in five years. For a quiet visit to the castle, avoid the Sunday afternoon. Finally, a pointless fact: the Château de Couches was the setting for the video clip Cry Wolf by the band A Ha in 1986. This dated video can be found on Youtube. It gives a good impression of a visit to the castle during Halloween. But for the rest of the year, despite Margaret's underground dungeon and Margaret's supposed secret residence, the castle is a trip with no dark edges. A castle where children imagine themselves to be knights or ladies. And their parents dream of a life as a contemporary castle lord or woman surrounded by vineyards.
You can cycle and walk between the vineyards and enjoy the atmosphere in the many authentic wine villages
Historical building. It was built in 1610 on older foundations and has housed a large landowner or wealthy merchant. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, under Louis XIV, the Protestants clandestinely performed their worship here, hence the origin of the name.
About 25 minutes drive you will find the golf course at Beaune,
In this outdoor natural swimming pool you can take a dip on hot days. This pool is located at the exit of Nolay, on the road to Couches. Local residents, holidaymakers and tourists alike will find all the joys of swimming, idleness and beach games in a completely natural environment. Two pontoons delimit the diving and swimming areas and the surrounding sites offer welcoming places, on the sand or in the countryside, in the shade of the trees or in the sun. The quality of the water is checked regularly. Showers and toilets are also available, as is the snack bar at the neighboring Les Chaumes du Mont campsite. Access to the lake and location is free for all.
