Champagne-et-Fontaine is a commune in the Dordogne department in northern France, with about 400 inhabitants. It is part of the Arrondissement of Périgueux.
Champagne-et-Fontaine is the birthplace of Philip I of France (23 May 1052). He was King of France from 4 August 1060 to 1108
For some twenty years, Charles de Gaulle's family owned a manor called La Ligerie where de Gaulle spent his summers as a youth. The de Gaulle family sold La Ligerie in 1920. The house is located in Fontaine, about 6 minutes drive from Maison Fame.
In the vicinity of Champagne et Fontaine there are several lively markets. A 10-minute drive away, there is a small market on Saturday mornings in the middle of Villebois-Lavalette on Pl. des Halles with many regional products. Highly recommended!
On the first Sunday of every month throughout the year, a very large flea market is held in the village of Verteillac (12 km).
