We are Richard and Marjan, Dutch owners of Le Bel Endroit gîte since December 2014. Marjan has been coming to the area where the gîte is since her childhood. Because the Ardéche / Gard is so versatile, we have chosen to open a gite in this area. The gite, which is located in a typical French environment, we have stylishly and luxuriously decorated in a way that we ourselves would like to celebrate holidays.

Additional information

In Barjac, a typical French town, there are nice streets with terraces, shops and restaurants. Barjac is located about 15 minutes from the gîte. In Barjac there is a Carrefour Express for daily shopping. By the way, there is a small epicerie in the village of the gîte where you can get bread, among other things. On Friday mornings is the market and twice a year is the largest Antiques Market in Barjac, at Easter and in August.
Also in Barjac the beautiful art complex of Anselm Kiefer, La Ribaute. A former
Every Wednesday morning there is a nice market in the French label Joyeuse, with local delicacies, soaps, wines, linen and much more. Worth the visit!
It is of course wonderful to also visit the sea. That is fine from the gîte. The sea of Montpellier is at a distance of 1.5 hours. There lies la Grande Motte or Grau du Roi on the Mediterranean Sea. With nice beach bars and wide beaches. Who is willing to drive a bit further; in the area of the Camarque is the seaside resort of Saint Marie de la mer. Incidentally, the city of Montpellier is really worth a visit!
Aubenas is a beautiful town in the Gard. However, a bit of driving from the gîte but well worth a visit. With nice terraces, shops and a nice market on Saturday.
There are several locations near the gîte for climbing. Favorite with children. There are climbing courses for the smallest children but also more challenging for older children and adults. There is even a location where you can strum over the water.
There is plenty to do in the Ardeche. The Pont d'Arc in the Gorges is certainly worth a visit. An arch of boulders over the river. There is a super nice beach for swimming and sunbathing. The village of Vallon pont D'Arc is close by, touristy but certainly nice to visit. Make sure you also take the trouble to drive through the Gorges. A fantastic route over the mountains along the river with beautiful views.
In the middle of the Ardéche, close to Vallon Pont D'Arc, a cave has been found with beautiful wall drawings and crystals. Not so long ago, in 1994 the cave was discovered. An exact replica of the cave has been placed a few kilometers next to the real cave. In a beautiful building the cave has been reconstructed so that the hundreds of thousands of visitors can not damage the find. The temperature, humidity and even the smells of the real cave are beautifully recreated. Since 2014, the cave is on the Unesco World Heritage List.
20 minutes away from the gîte is a river the Cèze where you can swim, fish, sunbathe and for children a nice place to play. Near this river is a small restaurant and a toilet facility. In the river there are small rocks where you jump from and there is a small rapids where children with air mattresses go.
The Chassezac is a tributary of the Ardèche in the French Rhône-Alpes region. It rises in the Cévennes in the Montagne du Goulet at an altitude of 1300 meters. She empties into the Ardèche near Ruoms. You can swim and stay in this river. Despite the large rocks on the beach children can play. There is a small rapids with which you can let yourself be carried away with an air mattress or large pool. This river with the beach is about 20 minutes away from the cottage.
The aqueduct Pont du Gard is the best preserved aqueduct in the world and the most impressive! The Pont du Gard, which spans the valley of the Gardon, provided Nîmes with drinking water. The construction, between 40 and 60 years after Christ, took about 15 years. The beautiful structure is really worth a visit! You can walk from the south to the north side and of course take a dip in the refreshing river.
The city of Nîmes is worth a visit! Culture, conviviality, shopping and lovely terraces for a cup of coffee or a drink. This city, which was already very important in Roman times, is bustling and offers beautiful sights. The Amphitheater, Maison Carrée (temple), the gardens Jardins de Fontaine and much more. The city offers a visitor's pass with which all places of interest can be visited. In order to provide the city with water halfway through the 1st century AD. a 50 km long aqueduct built; Pont du Gard. The city of Nîmes and Pont du Gard are great to combine as a visit and is about a 1 hour drive from the cottage.
On a rainy day, for example, a visit to the castle in Labastide de Virac is a nice trip. Especially with young children. A historic monument near the cave "L'aven d 'Ornac, Vallon Pont d' Arc and the Cavern of Pont d'Arc The castle des Roure has been largely renovated and tells about the time around 1500 and about the silkworm nursery. the roof of the castle a beautiful view of the omgeving.Zeker worth it.On the official website of the castle much more information.
