The Cèze swimming river is within walking distance of Gîtes NouLou. You can swim, sunbathe, fish or relax under the trees or eat or drink something at the restaurant. Wonderful for children but also for adults. There are bicycles in the building that you can use

In the building is also gîte Lavande, gîte Anis and gîte Romarin.

The village of Saint-Denis is located in the Gard region and close to the Ardèche. Between Barjac and Saint-Ambroix. There are plenty of activities to do and sights to see. Beautiful cities such as Nîmes, Avignon, Aubenas, Uzes, Arles, Montpellier are all in the region.

Especially in the Ardèche there is a lot to do, such as canoeing, cycling, the climbing forest, walking and swimming in the rivers. The historic Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct) is worth a visit, but the impressive Gorges de L'Ardèche is also nearby. There are beautiful caves to visit, also a super fun outing for the children. In the Cévennes, a nature reserve, you can enjoy walking and for cycling enthusiasts, Mont Ventoux or Mont Bouquet are in the region. Everything is possible in this area, beautiful cities, nice trips, culture or sports. But also those nice markets; every day there is a market somewhere such as in Barjac, Saint-Ambroix, Joyeuse, Uzès, too many to mention!

We are Richard and Marjan, Dutch owners of gItes NouLou (since June 2018) and gîte Le Bel Endroit (since December 2014). Marjan has been in the area in which the gîte is located since childhood. Because the Ardéche/Gard is so versatile, we have chosen to open a gîte in this area. The gîtes are tastefully and luxuriously furnished in a way that we ourselves would like to have a holiday.

Gites NouLou; Lavande (2 p.), Romarin (3 p.), Anis (4 p.) and Olive (6 p.)

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

Beautiful aqueduct built by the Romans. Really worth to visit. After the visit take a dip in the river!
In the Gard and the Ardèche where the gîtes of NouLou are located, there are opportunities for canoeing everywhere. If you're up for the challenge, go canoeing in the Georges area. Just google "canoeing Gard of Ardèche" and choose the provider you feel most comfortable with.
Pont d'Arc is a rural bridge that spans the Ardèche river. This natural bridge is part of the impressive Gorges d'Ardèche nature reserve. There is a gap of tens of kilometers in this area. The gorge runs from Vallon Pont d'Arc to Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche. The valley of the gorge consists of rock formations that are tens of meters high. The river that runs through the gorge is very popular among canoeists. It is very nice to discover this area by car (or bicycle). There are many lookout points along the way that will give you a wonderful overview of the Ardèche. You can swim and sunbathe at the Pont d'Arc bridge. And also nice to see the less driven canoeists pass by.
In the Gard region (and Ardèche) are a huge number of weekly markets. Sociability, beautiful stalls and the towns / villages where the marches take place are worth a visit. Often the markets are in the morning but in the high season there are also markets in the evenings. Just look for "markets Gard" (or Ardèche) and you'll find different overviews!
Near the town of La Roque-sur-Cèze is a natural water area with waterfalls. There are rapids and waterfalls and you can hear the sound from a distance as you approach. In the area you can go for a nice walk or simply enjoy the natural disasters. There are corridors, gorges and streams, making it also a good place for a refreshing dip or a quick swim. The nickname of the waterfall is "leap of the devil". That nickname is not for nothing; the area can also be full of danger. It can be slippery and swimming in the gorges is very exciting but dangerous.
A very nice activity is the "Cévennes stream train". A ride of 13 km in an old stream train that leaves from the nice town of Anduze to the Saint-Jean-du-Gard terminus. Along the way you will see tunnels and bridges and of course the beautiful nature reserve. The ride is also great fun for children. The black soot makes you a little bit dirty. Tip; take a bottle of water with you on the way because you get quite thirsty. The town of Saint-Jean-du Gard is a pleasant village with terraces and shops. Anduze itself is also very beautiful. The weekly market is on Thursday morning. In Anduze are nice, small streets with shops and restaurants. A nice combination is the train ride with the bamboo forest, La Bambouseraie. This is namely a stopover where you can get off. Around 100 different bamboo species grow in the bamboo forest. You need about 1.5 to 2 hours to view the entire park. It is nice and cool in the summer months.
Too many to mention because there are so many beautiful cities to visit. To sniff culture, grab a terrace, shop or the beautiful historic center. Think of Nimes, Uzes, Lussan, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Avigion, Arles, Narbonne, Goudargues, Ales ....
Want to go to the sea for a day. That is fine! The beach near the city of Montpellier is nice and wide with nice beach bars and facilities. Montpellier, incidentally also a very nice city to visit, is 1 hour and 45 minutes away from Saint-Denis. Make it a fun day by visiting both the sea and the center of Montpellier.
