Holiday home Aubenton

Only 250 kilometers from Breda, but still completely in France, this beautifully restored holiday home is located on the outskirts of the village of Aubenton. According to guests, it is an attractive house in which you immediately feel at home, a wonderful place to enjoy the tranquility. The house has a spacious living room with a wood stove and always enough firewood for warm and cozy evenings. There are books, games and you can play records on the record player from the sixties.
There is no television, but (from 2025) Wi-Fi will be offered via a 4G router.
The garden that runs around the house is partially fenced for the dog and there is a sunny terrace directly behind the patio doors where you can sit privately. The open kitchen is simple but atmospheric, clean and complete.
There is also a bedroom with a double bed and on top of the loft a cozy room with three single beds. There is a bathroom with shower and toilet. From the house you can walk to the bakery for a fresh croissant within five minutes and the village also has a restaurant and grocery. In the other direction you can walk straight into the fields. The region is called the Thiérache and is not touristy at all, but there are many Dutch people who own a (second) home there. That's understandable, it's a beautiful area that lends itself perfectly to long walks or bike rides. There are endless narrow roads, with hardly any traffic, through a wide and rolling landscape with wheat fields and meadows, interspersed with forests, rivers and sleepy villages. Here the cows, often together with their calves, still walk everywhere in the meadow, chickens scratch around and it is a paradise for bird lovers. There is a lot of silence and the nights often offer a spectacular view of the starry sky. Of course, there are also all kinds of trips to be made by car, such as the fortified church route (églises fortifiées) and there are several churches to visit, for example the one in Jeantes which was completely painted by Charles Eyk. There are opportunities to swim in the pool or lake or you can take a canoe trip on the l'Oise.
At a maximum of an hour's drive there are beautiful cities such as Reims with its famous cathedral and champagne houses, Laon with an even more beautiful cathedral in the middle of the old town or Charleville-Mezière with its central square surrounded by arcades. Sedan and St Quentin are also beautiful historic towns that are worth a visit. You are most welcome!
