Additional information

In the middle of the Tyrolean mountain world, not far from Wörgl, the high valley of the Wildschönau stretches for a length of 24 kilometers. This high valley consists of the 4 church villages of Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach, of which Niederau is the largest village. The valley lies in the heart of the Zillertal and Kitzbuhel Alps and is known for its good price / quality ratios.
Characteristic of Niederau is the hospitality and romantic atmosphere. The stately parish church with its pointed tower marks the character of the village. The good ski facilities and the attractive price-quality ratio make Niederau a popular ski resort. Niederau is a perfect ski destination for peace seekers and families with children. In addition to traditional winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, there is much to experience in and around the village. More than 300 kilometers of well-marked and well-prepared hiking trails invite you to fantastic hiking. A nice tip is a trip with the adventure buoy train to the secret gorge in the mountains. In the evening, flare-ups are regularly organized by the forest. After a tiring day, you can rest in atmospheric stubes with a tasty piece of sachertorte. In the evening it is fine dining in the local restaurants in the center. Niederau's nightlife is lively with cozy pubs and cafés for a well-deserved Apres ski.
We are not the largest Austrian winter sports area, but the friendliest!" Indeed, so-called "Mystery Skiers", anonymous ski resort testers, have brought this result to the fore in a reputable trade journal. "An award that honors us and that impressively underlines our proverbial hospitality"! As far as pistes are concerned, the Wildschönau has previously emerged as the winner.
In the village Niederau you will find further: 2 supermarkets (Spar and M-preis), drugstore, bank, skiwear and equipment, ski rental, bicycle and mountain bike rental.
In the sun- and snow-assured Wildschönau, both the advanced and novice skiers can get along well on the 145 km of prepared pistes. The 46 ski lifts open up the entire area from 670 to 2025 meters. Wildschönau also offers plenty of cross-country skiing opportunities. The 50 km of connected trails ensure that beautiful trips through the valley can be made. The area offers the hiker 40 km of winter hiking trails with beautiful views of the surroundings. Some Wildschönau ski facts at a glance: Altitude: 828 - 1903 meters; Ski pass: valid for the entire Wildschönau-Alpbachtal area, no photo required; Pistes: 145 km; Excellent for all levels skiers; Snowboard: including 1 halfpipe and 1 funpark; Cross-country skiing: 50 km of trails; Elevators: 46 units. The extremely child-friendly and well-organized area has many Dutch ski instructors. There are plenty of practice slopes for the children and there are even special 'kindergarten play tracks' at the bottom of the slopes. The 2 mountains above the village are the Markbachjoch and Lanerköpfl and offer, among other things, beautiful descent opportunities to the village via red and black slopes. Of course, there are also several blue slopes in the village. The free ski bus provides connections to the other places in the ski area. Your ski pass is suitable for the entire Ski Juwel Wildschönau/Alpbachtal area (145 km of slopes). If you still want to try a larger ski area, drive out of the valley (10 minutes by car) to Hopfgarten and you can ski in the largest contiguous ski area in Austria: ski grossraum Brixental. After skiing, there is a pleasant après-ski in the various bars and there are opportunities for ice skating, horseback riding, swimming or a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the beautiful surroundings.

The mountain landscape is beautiful for four seasons, also in autumn. The Austrians call it Goldener Herbst, because of the beautiful colors. Especially when the sun shines through the colored leaves it looks beautiful. There is also a lot to discover in this period of the year. A (short) holiday is definitely worth it! When autumn begins and the forests in the beautiful Wildschönau colors turn golden red, the time of Almabtriebe and Almfeesten begins, with lots of fun and atmosphere. Deciduous trees color all shades of red, brown, yellow and gold. Lariksen also participate in the golden game; other species remain green. This creates a beautiful, natural color palette.
