Fun trivia about the Valencia region
- Each year on 9 October, the ‘Día de la Comunidad Valenciana’ is celebrated. This feast day commemorates the founding of the city of Valencia and pride in their city is written on the faces of the local population.
- The area around Valencia is the birthplace of the original paella.
- The local population is very keen on ‘mascletas’: ear-splittingly loud fireworks.
- Valencia is also the name of two municipalities in the Philippines, one in Colombia, a county in New Mexico, a city in Venezuela and a town in California and is used in many other ways (it’s also the name of a genus of fish).
