Some mornings you want the sea. It is 3 km away, so you swim before breakfast and are back with wet hair and warm bread from the bakery around the corner. Other mornings you don't want to go anywhere, and then the pool is just there, a few steps from the door.
That is the idea behind Casa Malibo. You are in the middle of the village, not on the outskirts of it. The market, restaurants and supermarket are within walking distance. The roads are also close by, so La Manga, Cartagena and the golf courses are within easy reach if you feel like getting out and about.
The apartment itself
Three bedrooms, so no one sleeps on a sofa bed. Two bathrooms, so no one is waiting. The living room is spacious and full of light, and stays cool when the afternoon is serious. The kitchen is designed for real cooking, not for heating anything. There is a desk, in case a few hours of work creep into your week. Everything is on the ground floor, no stairs.
The terrace is where the day usually ends. Something fresh, the last sun, no one in a hurry.
Late afternoon at the salt lakes
Walk to Las Salinas around six o'clock. The water turns pink, the flamingos stand there as if everything is theirs, and the light becomes soft over the water. People have been coming here for the mud baths for a century, and they still can. After that, the seafood restaurants on the boulevard of Lo Pagán fill up with Spanish families, usually the sign that you have chosen the right table.
Who owns this house
Casa Malibo belongs to a Belgian family that currently lives and works in Texas. This is their own home away from home, and the name comes from their children, Magali and Boone. They can't be there all year round, so they keep the apartment as they would like to find it and share it with people who handle it well.
Come for the sun. Stay long enough to get the rhythm here.
