Cozy village located in the Marina Baja. Polop dominates the access from the Mediterranean coast to the valley of Guadalest and surrounding mountains. Polop is located on a hill, in the hinterland of Benidorm. The village is set around the Moorish castle of origin, which was built in the early 12th century as a large strategic fortress within the region. Mainly characterized as an attractive mountain village, Polop is surrounded by the Barrancos del Salt and the Canet de Xirles and the Monte Ponoig mountain range, source of inspiration for Gabriel Miró, who has captured the charm of the village in his books. The silhouette of Monte Ponoig is referred to as the “Leon dormido” (The sleeping lion). Polop dominates this with its merging houses, under the watchful eye of the castle.
