Welcome to Casa Covas 101, our own home in the quiet village of Covas, in the far north of Portugal. It is a traditional farmhouse of granite and terracotta that we lovingly renovated and furnished with our own art, books and furniture. Not a hotel and not a standard holiday rental, but a place where you feel at home from the very first evening.
Covas lies in the hills above Vila Nova de Cerveira, the artists' town on the Minho river, with Spain just across the water. You wake up to birdsong and views of wooded mountains, while the Atlantic beaches, historic towns and the Alvarinho wine region are all within easy reach.
THE HOUSE
The house sleeps up to 8 guests and is made for groups who love spending time together: families, groups of friends and motorcycle riders.
- Living room with a high ceiling, large windows onto the garden and terrace, deep sofas around the wood stove and an open mezzanine with floor cushions.
- Fully equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and a large American fridge with ice maker.
- Dining area with a long wooden table for the whole group and a second wood stove.
- Four bedrooms: three with a double bed and one with two single beds. Bed linen and towels are provided.
- Three modern bathrooms with shower, washbasin and toilet.
- Fast Starlink internet throughout the house, good for working and streaming.
OUTSIDE
- Saltwater pool in the garden with sun loungers, parasols and views of the hills. Unheated, for the warmer months.
- Covered hot tub, available all year round.
- Covered terrace with a table for eight and lounge chairs. A charcoal barbecue stands outside the covered area.
- Flower and vegetable garden with fruit trees. Whatever is ripe, you are welcome to pick.
- Covered parking behind an electric gate, for two cars or up to eight motorcycles.
FOR MOTORCYCLISTS
The Alto Minho is one of the finest riding regions in Portugal, with winding mountain roads, dirt tracks and little traffic. Your bike stays safe in the covered garage and there is a pressure washer. Together with the local guides of Freeride Spirit we offer guided enduro days, on a rental bike or your own. Just ask us about the options.
THE AREA
- Vila Nova de Cerveira (10 minutes): castle, riverside promenade on the Minho, Saturday market, supermarkets and restaurants.
- Walking from the door: the 6 km PR3 Trilho da Serra de Covas loop starts a few minutes from the house.
- Beaches: river beach Praia da Lenta (10 minutes), Praia do Camarido near Caminha (20 minutes) and the Atlantic beach of Moledo (25 minutes).
- Wine: the Alvarinho wineries of Monção and Melgaço (35 to 50 minutes).
- Day trips: Ponte de Lima, Valença with Spanish Tui across the bridge, Viana do Castelo, Santiago de Compostela and Peneda-Gerês National Park.
PRACTICAL
- Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 11:00. Self check-in with a key box at the gate.
- Minimum stay 3 nights. Cleaning EUR 95 per stay, security deposit EUR 500.
- One pet is welcome. No smoking indoors. Quiet hours 22:00 to 08:00. Family celebrations are welcome; large parties and loud music are not.
- Our caretaker João lives nearby for practical questions. The house has an information booklet in five languages.
- Airports: Vigo (about 45 minutes) and Porto (about 1 hour 15 minutes). A rental car is recommended.
- Registered as Alojamento Local under number (*CONTENT HIDDEN*)/AL.
