Welcome to Casa La Selvella, our fully restored farmhouse in the Umbrian hills, close to the Trasimeno Lake and the wonderful Orcia valley in Tuscany.
The Pacha (Etruscan version of the God Bacchus) apartment combines a rustic style with our eclectic choice of vintage and antique furniture; it is cosey, comfortable and offering all necessary amenities. The apartment is on the first floor. Guests have their own individual access, via an outdoor stairway.
Pacha t includes 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large living room with a kitchen area. It has its own outdoor loggia with a table and chairs. Guests have full access to the garden, with a salt-water pool, shared only with one other appartment. We occupy the other part of the house.
Bought in 2019, we have carefully renovated our house amidst the rolling hills of Umbria, respecting its original features, and split half of it into two lovely apartments which we rent during the summer period, with the other half being our home. In our big garden you can always find a nice and quiet spot in the shade to drink an aperitivo, or read a book in a comfortable lounger.
Casa La Selvella has beautiful views all around, including Cortona and the Trasimeno lake. The house is located along a peaceful path surrounded by olive trees, farmland and our favourite vineyard, Poggio Bertaio. We are at less than 1km from the picturesque village of Gioiella. Here you can find our favourite bar, La Ruota, serving one of the best pizzas in the region, a small super market, a pharmacy and a post office. And let’s not forget the small but lovely 16th century church.
We are at a short driving distance away from many amazing villages and other places of interest, such as Castiglione del Lago (at 6 km only) and Passignano on the Trasimeno lake, Panicale and Città della Pieve in the hills, and Montepulciano and Chiusi in Tuscany. A bit further away, but still within a one hour’s drive, are gorgeous Siena – known for the horse races around its main square, il Campo, Arezzo - famous for its monthly antique market, Orvieto - sporting one of the most impressive cathedrals of Italy and Perugia – full of history and well known for its chocolate. Within two hours you can go to Florence up North, explore the famous Marmore cascades down South and plenty of other famous and wonderful Italian destinations.
And if you don’t feel like taking the car? There are a few beautiful walks across fields and vineyards around the house, and plenty of opportunity to cycle around and discover Il Cuore Verde d'Italia (the green heart of Italy), as Umbria is called. Or, of course, you can spend the day lounging at the pool, sipping from a glass of ice-cold Grechetto white wine straight from the neighbours.
