We are Ton and Betty and bought a house in Castelnuovo Calcea in 2008. The former house has been thoroughly renovated by us and now consists of three bedrooms; three bathrooms; a modern kitchen and a large living room.
Around the house is a large terrace and a large lawn with a double swing and a trampoline. When you walk around the house you will see a persimmon, a cherry tree, a fig, a cypress and a pomegranate and an old almond tree. Further down the slope we planted a whole series of fruit trees: apple, pear, apricot, nut, almond, kiwi, peach and plum. A Chinese proverb: "If you want to be happy for an evening, you have to drink a bottle of wine, if you want to be happy for a year, you have to get married, but if you want to be happy for a lifetime, you have to start gardening. We do it there, all three of us.
From the garden you have an overwhelming view of the vineyards and the hills with a village on each hill. On a clear day, you can see the Alps that surround Piedmont: the Swiss Alps in the north, the French Alps in the west with the mythical Monviso and the Ligurian Alps in the south that lie between Piedmont and the Mediterranean Sea.
The beach of the Mediterranean Sea is an hour and a half away; The mountains are a two-hour drive away; Turin is an hour away and Milan is within an hour and a half.
Piccolo Paradiso is not a house for lazy holidaymakers who want to lie by a pool all day. For active people, the house is the perfect base for exploring the region. You can also just read a book and drink a glass of wine in the large garden. And if you have green fingers, you can go wild in the garden; Mowing the grass, removing weeds, turning over compost heaps and keeping up the slope with the brush cutter.
A large barn has been built against the house. In the barn you will find the boiler, the geyser and the washing machine. There is also a water connection for the hose with which you can water the garden. All garden equipment (garden chairs, sunbeds, garden table) are also stored in this shed. This region (Monferrato) is known for its excellent wines, its special dishes, its truffles, hazelnuts and chocolate.
Within a radius of 10 km around the house there are so many restaurants and winemakers that it is humanly impossible to visit them all in one year.
