The seaside village of Sissi is located on the north coast of Crete, 43 kilometers east of Heraklion town, 8 km from Malia and 17 km from Hersonissos.Sisi is located in the Lassithi department and actually consists of two parts, Sisi on the sea and Epano (Upper) Sisi . Epano Sisi is the traditional village that lies five hundred meters from the seaside resort of Sisi. The entire area has developed enormously in the past decades. The originally fishing village is located on a small harbor that looks very like a fjord. The village is very cozy and there are many nice terraces around the harbor. The village is located on a rocky coast, swimming is therefore best in the harbor itself where there is a small beach or outside the village in an easterly direction. There are the beaches Boufos, Avlaki and a bit further the beach at Kalimera Beach. Who likes good food will feel at home here because there is a lot of choice of good restaurants and fish taverns. Walking through the narrow alleys of the village in the evening is wonderful, because there are many souvenir shops, jewelers but also mini-markets, bakeries, cafés, snack bars and pubs. Those who love going out will certainly enjoy themselves here. From the harbor, boat excursions are organized to all kinds of seaside resorts in the area. You can also rent a car yourself and visit for example the Lassithi plateau, the traditional village Milatos, the famous Agios Nikolaos or the popular Koutouloufari nightlife you can in Sissi itself, but if you want to enjoy the utmost nightlife then we recommend Malia or Hersonissos. Although Sisi is a tourist village, it has the advantage that it is not massive. You still have the village feeling, something you do not have in Agios Nikolaos, Malia or Hersonissos.

Milatos is a well cared for traditional village on the north of Crete that lies between Hersonissos and Agios Nikolaos. It is about the same place where originally the eponymous city from ancient times. The village is divided into two parts; one part is in the hinterland, the other part on the coast, this village is also called 'Paralia Milatou'. Paralia means beach. The distance between the two villages is about two kilometers. The village Milatos is quiet, the old houses have been restored in the old style, they look very nice. It is worthwhile to take a walk in the alleys of the village. The village on the coast is more touristy. Here are all kinds of taverns, cafes and shops. From Milatos it is possible to make nice trips, because several popular seaside resorts are close by. A few kilometers away is the beautiful Vrachasi gorge, ideal for walking. Although Milatos is a small village, it has a very rich history. According to ancient history books, in ancient times the city Milete in Turkey was founded by residents of Milatos. In 1823 a great drama took place in a cave near Milatos, where 3600 Greeks were killed by Turks. This cave can be visited. Every year, Sunday before Easter, a mass is held in memory of these victims, in the small church next to the cave.
