You are welcome in our spacious German farm dating from the time that the peat area of Loher Westmark was cultivated for agriculture and animal husbandry (1953 - just as recently!). The farm is close to the river Soeste, which is navigable from the Netherlands to the marina of Barssel. The marina is four kilometers away from the farm.
The farm is surrounded by almost two acres of lawns, an apple orchard and birches, oak and beech trees and majestic chestnut trees that together give the feeling of being in the middle of a real forest.
This still largely original Siedlerbauernhof (settler's farm) has no exaggerated luxury, but it has all the facilities for 6 - 8 people for a long weekend or a week of carefree relaxation (more people and large groups in consultation). The farmhouse has three bedrooms.
The charms of the farm are the tranquility, the space and the secluded location. The nearest neighbors are almost 150 meters away, which means that many things are possible: pets are also welcome. The tranquility is emphasized because there is no TV, internet or wifi available. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge (no freezer) and everything in the basement stays nice and cool. After a good apple year you can find apple juice from your own orchard there and we invite you to taste the juice. With the sublime wood burning stove you can get the living kitchen as warm as you wish. There is no central heating, but there are enough duvets and blankets to give a warm night to even the biggest cold. There are two bathrooms, one of which has underfloor heating on the bedroom floor. Downstairs is a second toilet and a separate shower. A washing machine is available.
The farm invites you to be outside. There is plenty of entertainment: playing badminton on the soft grass, having water fights when it is hot, or just lying in the shade in a hammock with a book. In addition, there is a trampoline present, nice to jump on or to lie down in the evening and watch the starry sky. In the evening you can sit comfortably around a mobile campfire, lay a cuddle in the playroom or play table tennis in the spacious hay loft. In the cozy living room with wood burning stove there is an extensive record collection with a pick-up. For a rainy day, there are board games on the coast and to the test: Risk, Settlers of Catan, dominoes, clover jackets, darts, table football, Barricade, shuffles and more. Outside, in addition to badminton, you can also play football, jeu de boulen, or you can chop wood, mow lawn on the ride-on mower, gather wood for the campfire, play hide and seek, prune, paint, bricklaying, or just tinker with the stable. For the do-it-yourselfers among you there is a list of jobs that you can do.
In the area you can walk along the Soeste, the river a few hundred meters from the farm. At the marina canoes are rented to sail with the flow of this tidal river. Five bicycles are available to do groceries in Barssel (four kilometers with a number of good supermarkets) after fifteen minutes, or to make small bicycle tours, for example to Elisabethfehn (six kilometers) to visit the fascinating Peat Museum. For longer trips it is advisable to bring your own bicycle.
