Holiday homes in Manderscheid
The picturesque village of Manderscheid is in the heart of the German Eifel. This small village is located in an old volcanic area and is known as a popular spa resort. Manderscheid is therefore a much loved destination for a spa holiday in the Eifel. The small town is situated in a lovely area on the river Lieser. The Lieserpfad, one of the best known and most beautiful walking routes in Germany, runs along it. Other attractions in Manderscheid are the Oberburg and Niederburg; two medieval castles that symbolise the rich culture and history of the area.Sweeping views and lovely daytrips
There is a wide choice of beautiful walking and cycling routes. in the area surrounding Manderscheid. They run straight through the beautiful nature of the Eifel, with sweeping views, deep ravines and dense forests. In the immediate vicinity you will also find challenging mountain bike tracks. Germany’s largest mountain bike area is also close by: the VulkanBike Trail Park. From Manderscheid you can explore the area in a variety of ways. Nice places to visit are Wittlicht and Daun (near Weiersbach). A day trip to the Moselle region is also worthwhile, with picturesque villages such as Cochem, Liesenich, and BernKastel-Kues. Nice things to know about Manderscheid
- The two castles of Manderscheid date from 1173. Both castles symbolise the two powerhouses of that time: the Oberburg belonged to the Electorate of Trier, while the Niederburg belonged to Luxembourg. At the time, it was the most easterly point of the Southern Netherlands.
- In the nature around Manderscheid there are not only many lakes, but also maars. These are flooded craters where you can go for a nice swim.
- A fun day trip with the children: the wildlife and amusement park in Daun and Gondorf family park near Bitburg, an amusement park and zoo all in one.
