Holiday home with private pool in the South of France
Between Lauzerte and Montaigu de Quercy, on a dead-end cart path, lies las Gardes, an authentic detached ensemble between fields, valleys and the occasional small forest. The ensemble consists of two separate gites, the largest of which we offer as a summer house for rent for your holidays. The smaller house is used by us, but not during the rental. You have the empire to yourself. We then live in the nearby town of Lauzerte. The site is one hectare in size and largely flat, so it is ideal for sporting activities such as badminton or football. The gite has its own swimming pool of 10 x 5 meters that is well sheltered from prying eyes (but from whom?) and gives complete privacy. In 2025, the swimming pool (by heating the sun) can open early in the season if desired. Part of the property consists of an orchard with (mainly) cherry and walnut trees and gives a leafy view of a small valley and the rolling countryside. The orchard has since been expanded with peaches and a pomegranate tree. There are also many different citrus trees (in pots). Apart from nocturnal visits from the occasional badger, owl, bat, fox or roe deer, the yard and land of the gite las Gardes reign above all a soothing tranquility.
The cottage consists of a spacious living room with double French doors giving access to a well-sheltered, intimate courtyard of about 50 m2 and connects to a directly adjoining bedroom of about 9 m2 containing a double bed and a closet, a second bedroom of 24 m2 containing three single beds and a third bedroom of 16 m2 containing a double bed. The two last bedrooms also each have double garden doors that give direct access to the private grounds.
An old stable space of more than 40 m2 now serves as a kitchen and is therefore certainly spacious enough for eight people, but is only equipped with basic facilities. This space, as it is so beautifully called in France, has remained entirely 'dans son jus' and the original function is therefore still recognizable, for example by the presence of centuries-old stable tiles and the equally old beams that support the roof. In principle, all rooms are 'on the ground floor', but the differences in level present in the terrain can also be found in the house in the form of stone steps and steps and make the house not very suitable for the use of a wheelchair or walker. The house is essentially L-shaped and forms with our other house a sheltered and intimate courtyard oriented to the sunny south. Around the house and by the pool there is a wide range of (sun) chairs and tables so that - if the weather cooperates - there is always a place in the sun or in the shade somewhere. The other house is in use by us, but never during rental of the holiday home and your privacy and exclusive use of the swimming pool are therefore completely guaranteed. We have kept the restlessness of wifi, TV, satellite dishes and cable connection out of our holiday home and for that reason the gite is probably not suitable for everyone....
In the south-west of France, divided between the departments of Lot and Tarn et Garonne, lies the Quercy Blanc. A friendly undulating and varied landscape, crisscrossed by rivers and rivers and lined with many villages and small towns that have exceptionally preserved their medieval origins. Such as Montaigu de Quercy with its beautiful belfry and lively market (Saturday), Montcuq with an equally cheerful market (Sunday) and imposing keep from the twelfth century, the fortified towns of Tournon d'Agenais and Lauzerte located on steep hills, bastides with beautiful central squares such as Monflanquin, Villereal, Castelnau de Montratier and Auvillar, but also Penne d'Agenais, Roquecor, Beauville, Lacour-de-Visa, Puymirol, Puylaroque and Bruniquel (etc., etc.) are living witnesses of a great past. The region has not been affected by mass tourism that has left deep scars in the Dordogne further north. The Quercy Blanc is sometimes called the French Tuscany, or also une autre Provence. With Tuscany and that other Provence, the Quercy Blanc can in any case enjoy a sunny and pleasant climate.
