 Come and relax in a nice village with a lot of history. Your apartment has its own entrance and consists of a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There is a wood stove in the living room. There are also electric radiators in all rooms. In addition, you have a covered terrace of approximately 15m2, which overlooks the large garden and which you can of course also use. Next to the house is a large parking lot. You have an excellent fiber optic and Wi-Fi connection and Dutch, French and German television channels.


I have named your apartment Chatrou. That's what the residents call their village because the name is quite long. Your apartment is a great base for a walk, bike ride, champagne tasting, beach day at the Lac du Der and so on.

The Lac du Der is a paradise for nature lovers and nature photographers. In autumn and winter, the lake is almost dry and that attracts many migratory birds, including thousands of cranes. The peak is at the end of October/beginning of November and there are years when 200,000 are counted.

A bike ride around the Lac du Der or the lakes of the Aube or the canal along the Marne is highly recommended.

Beautiful cities to visit are Verdun, Troyes and Reims.

The church route along all the villages with half-timbered churches is very nice and varied.

A visit to the former trenches of the First World War is also impressive.

I have been coming to Champagne since 2003 and since 2013 I have been living here and renovating houses that I then rent out as holiday homes and I help people with renovations or management.

Explanation of the prices & cancellation policy

The prices displayed are for 1 person. This allows me to offer a great price to singles as well. In addition, I charge € 35 cleaning costs per stay. In this way I can also make short stays possible.


I charge the following amounts, depending on the date of written cancellation by the renter:
  • cancellation more than 3 months before the start of the rental period: free of charge
  • Cancellation between the 90th and the 60th day before the start of the rental period: 25% of the rental price
  • Cancellation between the 59th and the 15th day before the start of the rental period: 60% of the rental price.
  • Cancellation less than 15 days before the start of the rental period: 100% of the rental price.
  • Rebooking to another period is always possible up to at least 15 days before the start of the rental period.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

There is a lot of tourist information and maps in the house. I also like to tell you everything and you can always call me for additional information or help. Nice cities / rides nearby: -Verdun (1 hour) and the battlefields of the First World War there. -Troyes (1 hour) a beautiful city with many medieval monuments. beautiful shops, an outlet center and a covered marketplace full of culinary craftsmanship. -Bar sur Aube, many champagne houses, beautiful ride! -The champagne route at Vitry le Francois. -The church route, you cross all small villages with beautiful medieval churches in half-timbered. -The Lac du Der, beach, nature, hiking, bike rental, casino, boulevard. -Nigloland, fun amusement park near Bar sur Aube. -If you want to buy / taste champagnes, I will gladly help you on your way.
This monastic order has left a major mark on the region since 1115, but also influenced politics throughout Europe through the abbot of this monastery, Bernard of Clairvaux.
From the monastery of Clairvaux they have cultivated a lot of land in the region. The heyday of this order was from 1100 to 1300, after which the order, which became very wealthy, became increasingly corrupt. In 1795, the French Revolution severely intervened and destroyed many of their properties.

From your holiday home you could visit two Cistercian monuments:
The ruins of the Abbey of Trois Fontaines, above left Saint Dizier. This abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but it remains an interesting object. Look for the 3 fountains/springs... And the ice cellar... You can then drive a little further north towards the valley of the Saulx river and then back towards Saint Dizier. This valley used to have a lot of cast iron industry and was very rich at the time.
The other monument is of a completely different order. It is a beautiful wine cellar of the Champagne house Monial (=nun) with a very cozy chapel. You can taste and buy delicious champagnes and visit this wine cellar. Their Cuvée Sylves in particular is a top 10 champagne for a very reasonable price (approx. € 26). For this visit you will take a beautiful drive to Bar sur Aube. The winery is located in Colombey le Sec. (le cellier des moines)

The Lac du Der in January. From October to February a large part of this artificial lake is dry. From spring it is filled with water de Marne to keep the water level in Paris and surroundings safe.

One of the militarie cemeteries at Verdun, where during the First World War a years-long battle took place. From a horrible beauty and raked cleanliness. Taken from the Ossuaire, a monument where countless remains of unknown soldiers have their final resting place.
One of the many medieval half-timbered churches that the region is rich in. This is the church of Puellemontier, about 2 kilometers away from your house.
The ruin of the Abbey of Trois Fontaines. Founded around 1130 by the Cistercian monk / abbot Bernard. He would now be compared to Mandela. They have mined large parts of North-East France. The abbey was destroyed during the French revolution.
