Fabre Vieux is the ideal place for you if you like nature and tranquility, while within a radius of 15 - 25 km there are also all kinds of cultural attractions (festivals, museums, castles, markets, domaines de vin) and you can undertake sporting activities (canoeing, kayaking, swimming, horse riding, tree climbing, golf).

Our castle stands on an area of 4 hectares.
Since 2012 we have the detached Bakhuis (FOURNIL) available. At 50 m from the Chateau is the Fournil [the Bakehouse] for 4 to 5 people, with its own grounds around it, a south-facing terrace with plenty of privacy. 1 extra bed can be added

The FOURNIL includes a spacious living room of 28 m2 with open kitchen and dining area, a separate bathroom with shower, sink and toilet and 2 bedrooms, each of 11 m2.

Extra: Rent of linen [sheets, pillowcases, (bath) towels and tea towels] is possible for 15 € per person per week.

In 1988 we, Wilbert van der Post and Maria van Bakelen, fell in love with a ruin: the remains of a manor from 1642. After 20 years of restoration and construction, our hills now have a beautiful castle where we live for a large part of the year and would like to welcome you as summer guests.

Additional information

The Fournil was a permanent part of large mansions (manoirs) and castles in France. A fournil is a baking house with a traditional, round (bread) oven that is used from the inside. In 2012, at Fabre Vieux, we built a bakery 50 m from the castle using old, traditional materials. The round four can function as an oven, but the Fournil mainly serves as an extra gite to rent out: when it was built, the Fournil was furnished as a gite for 4 people. The Fournil contains a large sitting room annex open kitchen and dining area, a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink and two bedrooms. In the architecture we have combined modern elements with traditional building materials. For example, the sitting room has a high window (3.5 m) that offers a view of the hills. The walls inside are plastered white. On the south and west side is a large hardwood terrace with garden chairs and parasol. Because the bakehouse is built at a good distance from the castle, you have plenty of privacy.

The 2 gites Oleander and Lavender in beautiful natural stone are next to each other adjacent to the barn at 5 to 10 meters from the Maison Escalier (House with the stone external staircase). Lavender gives room to 3 – 4 pp and Oleander to 3 pp., so a total of 6 to 7 pp. You can rent them separately or both together. Description : Oleander and Lavender both have their own bathroom with toilet, shower and sink. Downstairs: There are twin beds in both gites, which can also be set up as two separate single beds. On the loft/mezzanine: In Oleander there is a bed of 1.10 m wide and in Lavender there is a spacious double bed (1.60 m wide). So lavender gives room for 3–4 pp and Oleander for 3 pp, so a total of 6–7 pp. Outside: Oleander and Lavender each have a terrace in front of the gite. Adjacent is also a large covered terrace of 7 x 7 m with a beautiful view over the hills, with an outdoor kitchen with counter top / sink, refrigerator with small freezer compartment, a 4-burner gas stove and microwave. Crockery, cutlery and pans are provided. There is a large dining table (8 pp), an extra dining table with 4 chairs, and a few garden chairs. On the ground floor: in both gites there is a twin bed, which can also be made into two separate single beds. On the mezzanine: Oleander has a 1.10 m wide bed and Lavender has a spacious double bed (1.60 m wide). Outside: Oleander and Lavender have a shared terrace. Adjacent is also a large covered terrace of 7 x 7 m with a beautiful view over the hills, with an outdoor kitchen with counter top / sink, refrigerator with small freezer compartment, a 4-burner gas stove and microwave. Crockery, cutlery and pans are provided. There is a large dining table (8 pp), an extra dining table with 4 chairs and a few garden chairs. You can use the washing machine in the laundry room (buanderie) of the Château. Rental prices high season per gite (Oleander or Lavender) € 350 ; low season €255. Both gites together with covered terrace with outdoor kitchen = € 675 per week.

MAISON ESCALIER The House with external stone staircase consists of two floors that are connected both from the inside and the outside: via an external stone staircase, resp. an oak interior staircase. Lower floor: Large room (7.5 x 4.50 m) with a dining area (dining table with 6 chairs) and cupboard and a sleeping area with two beds; a large kitchen (4 x 2.75 m) with a sink, refrigerator, 5 burner stove with large oven, dishwasher, worktops and a washing machine; a bathroom (2.5 x 1.80 m) with toilet, large shower (1.20 m) and sink. An internal staircase leads to the upper floor. Upper floor: Large sitting room (9 x 4.50 m) annex sleeping area with antique fireplace of 2 m wide and old 'évier'. The sitting area is 6.30 x 4.30 m, furnished with a 3-person sofa with matching chairs; the sleeping area is 3.5 x 5 m with a twin bed (1.60 x 2.00 m) and a large wardrobe. Outside: the House with external stone staircase has a private terrace and garden area, on which an outdoor dining table with 6 chairs. Rental price: High season € 650 per week; low season € 475.

MAISON ESCALIER (House with external stone staircase)

At the cottages Lavendel and Oleander there is a large covered terrace of 7 x 7 m with a beautiful view over the hills. There is an outdoor kitchen with counter top / sink, fridge with small freezer compartment, a large dining table with 8 chairs, an extra dining table with 4 chairs and a few garden chairs. At the terrace there is an extra sanitary unit with a covered shower and toilet room.

COVERED TERRACE (7 x 7m) with OUTSIDE KITCHEN

Our accommodations include: - the Maison Escalier (House with the outside stone staircase) 5 pp, possibly extra bed - the gites Lavender and/or Oleander with covered terrace with outdoor kitchen, 6 to 7 pp. - the Fournil (the Bakehouse), 4 pp. There is a swimming pool of 10 x 5m. with sun loungers. You can also rent these accommodations together at the same time, depending on the number of people and availability. Rental price is then €1,800 per week in high season; in the low season € 1,325. Our private swimming pool is located 60 to 100 m from the buildings and has a beautiful panorama of the surrounding hills. It is available to you as tenants. Dimensions: 10 x 5 m and 1.60 deep. Maintenance: The pool is maintained by us by administering chlorine and anti-algae and by vacuuming the bottom. In the 'local technique', a pump and sand filter provide water purification. Security: The pool is completely enclosed by a 1.20m high metal fence and the two access gates have child safety locks. Children under the age of 18 are only allowed to swim under the responsibility of their parents or adult supervisors. Glasses and bottles made of glass are not allowed on the terrace. Pets are not allowed in the swimming pool. Diving is not allowed due to the depth of 1.60m. 10 m away from the pool is a covered 'sanitary unit' with a shower (cold water only) and a toilet. The swimming pool has a sun terrace on two sides with plenty of sun loungers or deck chairs and two parasols: plenty of opportunities for you to sunbathe.
