Gîte 'Le Pigeonnier'

Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is part of La Bastide Portoly, originally a traditional farmhouse. In the village of Penne d'Agenais it is also called “Le petit château”. The whole consists of the house with the large Gîte "Les Deux Cèdres" at the bottom, a pigeon tower in which the Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is located and a former plum drying house where the chambre d'hôtes "Pruneaux" is located. Over 250 years old and packed with history. Great to realize how many generations have written their history in this house…. This stone country house is situated on a hill with a magnificent view of the picturesque medieval town of Penne d'Agenais with its silver dome basilica.
On the domain around the house are beautiful centuries-old (cedar) trees. The estate of 5.5 hectares consists partly of forest. You can walk straight from the garden into the forest for a lovely walk. With a bit of luck you might spot a deer or badger. The owl, a welcome guest, can also be seen and heard at night every now and then.
A significant part of the estate consists of meadows where a diversity of wild plants and rare orchids grow. There are cozy corners everywhere where you can enjoy nature. Due to its unique location, a beautiful panoramic view of the rolling hills with its plum orchards, sunflower fields and vineyards is guaranteed. Well, an atmosphere of soothing serenity! In order to guarantee this tranquility, we have made our accommodation an "adult-only accommodation".
Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is a cozy holiday home which is situated in the old pigeon tower and is separate from the main house. Through the authentic front door you enter the living and kitchen area. The living room has a rustic fireplace with wood stove and a cozy sitting area. The original wall cabinets, various old elements and a spectacular view from the window provide the real French feeling. Breakfast at the dining table where the window acts as a living painting… C'est la vie en France!
The kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner induction hob, an oven and a refrigerator. There is also a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster. On the ground floor there is a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. You then enter the bedroom which is equipped with a romantic double four-poster bed, dressing table and a large wardrobe. You enter the old pigeon tower via a staircase. Here is an additional room. The tower has been renovated, but here too the old elements such as the original entrance holes for the pigeons have been preserved. The terrace at the front of the building offers wonderful privacy with a fantastic view of the medieval village of Penne d'Agenais. On the other side you have a beautiful panorama towards the forest edge. Excellent for spotting roe deer, wild boar and badgers in the evening sun. You can park your car on site.
It is also nice to know that there are several places on the La Bastide Portoly estate to enjoy the fantastic views. From the swimming pool or from the bench at the edge of the forest. An excellent way to admire the starry sky at night or to listen to the owls.
