Gîte 'Le Pigeonnier'

Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is part of La Bastide Portoly, originally a traditional farmhouse. In the village of Penne d'Agenais it is also called "Le petit château". The whole consists of the house with at the bottom the large Gîte "Les Deux Cèdres", a dovecote in which the Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is located and a former plum dryer where the chambre d'hôtes "Pruneaux" is located. More than 250 years old and full of history. Great to realize how many generations have written their history in this house.... This stone country house is located on a hill with a magnificent view of the picturesque medieval town of Penne d'Agenais with its silver dome of the basilica.
On the domain around the house are beautiful centuries-old (cedar) trees. The 5.5-hectare estate consists partly of forest. You can walk straight from the garden into the forest for a lovely walk. With a bit of luck, you might spot a deer or badger. The owl, a welcome guest, also shows itself every now and then at night.
A significant part of the estate consists of meadows where a diversity of wild plants and rare orchids grow. There are cozy corners everywhere where you can enjoy nature. Due to its unique location, a beautiful panoramic view over the rolling hills with its plum orchards, sunflower fields and vineyards is guaranteed. Anyway, an atmosphere of soothing serenity! In order to guarantee this peace and quiet, we have made our accommodation an "adult-only" accommodation. This means that everyone from the age of 16 is welcome with us.
Gîte "Le Pigeonnier" is a cozy holiday home which is situated in the old dovecote and is separate from the main house. Through the authentic front door you enter the living and kitchen area. The living room has a rustic fireplace with wood stove and a cozy sitting area. The original wall cabinets, various old elements and a spectacular view from the window provide the real French feeling. Have breakfast at the dining table where the window acts as a living painting... C'est la vie en France! 
The kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner induction hob, an oven and a refrigerator. There is also a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster. On the ground floor there is a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Then you enter the bedroom which is equipped with a romantic double four-poster bed, dressing table and a large wardrobe. You enter the old dovecote via a staircase. There is an extra room here. The tower has been renovated, but here too the old elements such as the original entry holes of the pigeons have been preserved. The terrace at the front of the building offers wonderful privacy with a fantastic view of the medieval village of Penne d'Agenais. On the other side you have a beautiful panorama towards the edge of the forest. Excellent for spotting deer, wild boar and badgers in the evening sun. You can park your car on site.
Also nice to know that there are several places on the estate La Bastide Portoly to enjoy the fantastic views. From the swimming pool or from the bench at the edge of the forest. An excellent way to admire the starry sky in the evening or to listen to the owls.
