We have had the chalet since 2000. We have many very fond memories of this place with our four children and we all still enjoy coming here.
We hope that others can experience just as wonderful holidays as we do.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

The ski area bears the name “le Grand-Massif du Mont Blanc” and offers excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. In total there are about 260 kilometers of slopes with different difficulty categories, for both the beginner and (advanced) skier. Children up to 5 years old can use the lifts for free. There is also a 'village des enfants' (childcare) near the slopes in Morrillon. The ski area is formed by the villages of Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt. Because the area reaches an altitude of 2,480 meters, the snow is guaranteed. In case of sufficient snow you can ski down to the valley at about 600 meters. The more than 80 lifts in the area allow for day trips and ensure that you will not get bored easily. The majority of the lifts are chairlifts. There are also several fast cabin lifts and a smaller number of drag lifts. Several “jam parks” have been set up in the area to practice jumps. The descent “les Cascades” is very special. From the top in Flaine you descend continuously for 14 kilometers to the village of Sixt. From there you will be taken back to the ski lifts with the free ski bus. There are plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy the terrace when the weather is nice. If you do not always want to depend on a restaurant for your lunch, it is good to know that there are several well-appointed picnic halls (tables, benches, toilet) in the area, which you can use freely to eat your lunch. eat. For detailed information about the ski area, the slopes and prices of the ski passes (various options), please click here. From the chalet you can take the ski bus (boarding around the corner) to the gondola lift in Morillon (2 km). You can get there in a few minutes by car. You can park your car for free in a large parking lot about 100 meters from the lift. The nearest ski school is also located in the village of Morillon and you can rent ski equipment in several sports shops. You can buy your ski passes at the counter at the cabin lift or pre-order via the grand-massif.com website. The adjacent ski area, the well-known Portes du Soleil, can be reached by car. It is about half an hour's drive from Verchaix to Les Gets. For the real enthusiasts, it is also possible to go skiing in les Houches and Chamonix, about 50 kilometers away.
The Vallée du Haut-Giffre is also a beautiful and popular holiday destination in summer. There are a variety of options for an active holiday. Even if you are less sporty, you can fully enjoy the natural beauty. Numerous interesting excursions are possible. Walking There are many signposted walks in the area. From simple fairly flat walks to multi-day hikes with overnight stays in mountain huts. Ski lifts are open here and there in the area so that you can hike high in the mountains or have a picnic for example. The national park “Sixt Fer-à-Cheval” is very worthwhile: steep cliffs rise up in the shape of a horseshoe. Many waterfalls with meltwater from overlying glaciers find their way down here. A simple hike leads to the end of the valley. Cycling Cyclists can indulge themselves: there are many cols to conquer, such as the Col de Joux Plane, known from the Tour de France. Making trips on (rented) mountain bikes is another option. Many routes have been plotted (the so-called VTT routes). Those who prefer to cycle down on their own with a mountain bike can use the ski lift. Several lifts have been opened (including in Morillon 1100) to which the bicycle can be attached. Rafting and canyoning On the river “le Giffre” there is a lot of rafting and canyoning. If conditions permit, the tour leads through the “Gorges des Tines”, a deeply carved narrow gorge. Steep wall climbing and abseiling At the "Gorges des Tines" several slopes are in use for secure climbing of steep walls and abseiling. Paragliding On beautiful clear days you can see paragliding parachutes hanging in the air everywhere. You can register on the Col de Joux Plane and on the plateau de Saix. More information can be obtained at the tourist office in Verchaix or in Samoëns. The chalet contains maps and booklets in which various possibilities in the area are described.
Samoëns (approx. 5 km) is a lively town in high season with various nice shops and terraces. The extensive weekly market on Wednesday morning is a must. A visit to “le Cascade du Rouget”, a huge waterfall that is also called “Queen of the Alps”. The waterfall is located in the vicinity of Sixt. You can easily drive there by car. Annecy (approx. 65 km) is a beautiful historic city, beautifully situated on the lake. Lake Geneva (lac Leman) can be reached via a beautiful mountain route. The towns of Evian, Thonon, the medieval Yvoire and the tranquil village of Nernier are well worth a visit. The view of the lake in combination with the high mountains is beautiful. Beaches can be visited in various places and there are other water sports options. Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc. Possibly in combination with a trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel to the Italian town of Aosta on the other side. The photo shows the chapel of Saint Grat above Taninges/Vagny. Worth a visit for the beautiful views and a look at the nearby climbing site.
On Friday morning there is a fresh market at the roundabout in Verchaix. On Wednesday morning there is a large market in Samoëns.
A climbing and clambering paradise for children (and adults who love to play). Choose from various difficulty levels. For all ages. At Lac Bleu there is also a skating rink and a bouncy castle field.
The col de Joux Plane is a notorious Tour de France col of the hors category, comparable to Alpes D'Heuz. It is a cycling Mecca and a beautiful walking area. In winter you can go cross-country skiing or hiking with snowshoes. There is also regular start with duo flights. In Samoëns there are several addresses where these can be booked.
From the col de Joux Plane you can make beautiful walks to the Pointe d'Angolon and La Bourgeoise. Good for unparalleled views of Mont Blanc and, weather permitting, Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).
Several companies organize rafting trips, canyoning and canoe trips. From Sixt, a trip is possible through the spectacular Gorges des Tines.
The altitude and the guaranteed snow of the Grand Massif means that excellent slopes can often be found until past Easter. In the valleys, the gardens are restored while high in the mountains the snow conditions are top. After skiing you can enjoy the afternoon sun on the terrace in a T-shirt.
A walk at height with alternating beautiful views and attractive forest paths. For walkers who want to enjoy peace and quiet.
For the experienced walker to walk from La Sitelle. For those who want to combine sports activities with nature and silence.
If the snow conditions permit, the slope managers will build a jam parc in various places where the experienced winter sports enthusiast can enjoy themselves on ramps and other tricks.
Hiking trails in the high mountains abound. For example at Praz de Lyz.
A walk to a lake, Lac d'Anterne, at an altitude of 2500 meters. There is an overnight hut by the lake for sporty hikers who want to complete the trip to Chamonix. There are several overnight huts in the area, making multi-day trips through the high mountains possible.
A mountain stream within walking distance of the chalet. An ideal playground for children.
Behind Sixt Fer a Cheval is a spectacular valley. Fer a Cheval means horseshoe, referring to the shape of the valley. The bottom of the valley is sandwiched at 1100 meters between mountains that rise steeply to 3000 meters. Waterfalls emerge from the mountain walls in various places along the slopes. In some places the snow lingers well into the summer. A visit is certainly worthwhile. The valley continues in a gorge that continues to Bout du monde (end of the world). This area offers beautiful nature with walks for the quiet Sunday afternoon to tours for real mountain lovers.
The whole region offers endless opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. For those who sometimes want to mountain bike but don't feel like going up and down in style, the valley of the Giffre and the Tines offers several possibilities to take it a bit easier.
The region offers extensive opportunities for climbers. In a radius of a few tens of kilometers there are more than 35 locations with more than 1000 prepared sport climbing routes. From short to multipitch. In addition, there are also many options for via ferrata (routes with cables and footbridges). It is also fun to visit these places for non-climbers. On nice days it is nice to see climbers busy. And the breathtaking views of these locations are also worth it. For enthusiasts who want a little more guidance, there are also climbing schools nearby. Much information can be found in the booklet Giffres, Risse, Foron: 1000 voies et 1500 longeurs. This booklet is available in the chalet.
