Welcome to Aouste!
Just a few hours' drive from the Netherlands, the small rural village of Aouste is located in a beautiful rolling landscape. Here you will find peace and quiet as we are no longer used to in the Netherlands.
Since 2023, we have renovated our holiday home and equipped it with a number of modern conveniences. There is underfloor heating downstairs, a spacious kitchen, fiber optic internet and a bathroom with bath and shower. At the same time, it is a rural house with character. In winter, it can be cold in the hallway and bedrooms and it is useful if you know how to light a wood-burning stove. With the wood stove on, it gets nice and warm in the living room, and in the bedroom we have extra heaters and warm blankets!
Surroundings and tips
The surroundings are very beautiful and soothing. There are hills everywhere that give beautiful views over meadows and small pieces of forest. This is ideal for people who love cycling and walking. Furthermore, it is not a tourist area, which also means that there are not a lot of restaurants, cafes or other shops to be found. They are there, but not in every village! Our village, Aouste, for example, has no bakery, supermarket, restaurant or café. For all those things you have to go to the neighboring village of Liart. However, the baker does come to our house! So you can order your croissant or pain au chocolat over the phone, and they will be delivered fresh to your home, the instructions for this are in the information folder in the house.
Great tips for the area:
- From spring onwards, there are flea markets in all the surrounding villages! They are wonderful to browse in search of lost gems. For example, check brocabrac.fr/08/
- Charleville-Mézières is a beautiful old town to visit for a day, just half an hour's drive away
- In Lalobbe, a 10-minute drive away, there is a regionally renowned ciderie, where you can taste and buy ciders
- In Signy l'Abbaye you will find our favorite restaurant: the Auberge de l'Abbaye
- In the summer you can swim at Etang de la Motte in Signy le Petit
- For walking routes we have a booklet in the house in the information folder
- If you like wellness, there happens to be a small-scale wellness in a neighboring village, called "Belaora Spa" in Champlin
Property Details
Downstairs
The lower floor consists of an entrance hall and the living room-kitchen-dining room combination. In the hall you will find a toilet and the stairs to the top. The open kitchen with dining area is heated with electric underfloor heating and an attractive wood stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and there is fiber optic internet throughout the house. In the hall you will find the stairs to the upper floor. The hall is open and looks all the way up to the roof!
Top
On the upper floor you will find 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. The two bedrooms on the right are doubles with a double bed. Both of these rooms also have a desk. To the left in the hallway there is the bathroom, with underfloor heating, bath, shower and toilet. Next to it is a bedroom with two bunk beds. So 4 people can sleep here.
Outside
Outside we have a spacious garden of about 600 m2. Here is a terrace directly next to the house where a set of garden furniture is located. The garden is surrounded by greenery and there are no neighbors in sight! This is because the adjacent buildings are barns. The only neighbors you can encounter are sheep, birds and the horses in the meadow behind the garden! So it's great to relax!
