Why choose Fête de la Chouette in Ste Alvere?
After a long search through the Dordogne we arrived in this beautiful region with an enchanting rolling landscape and saw this house. Destination reached, we were immediately sold! It met all our wishes: a spacious detached
family house, quietly located, with a swimming pool and a spacious enclosed garden, where children can play safely to their heart's content. In a village where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings in the morning with a crusty baguette under your arm. Where you can choose from several restaurants in the evening, without having to drive. Our favorite is Dix. This restaurant was the only restaurant in the Dordogne to be included in the Gault & Millau's Sélection 109, a list of the 109 new best chefs in France in 2021. Ste Alvere is a picturesque place and is known for its truffles. These are sold on Mondays in winter at the truffle market. The price for a kilo of 1st category truffles can be between 600 and 1000 euros.
In the summer, Sainte Alvere also organizes night markets where the most delicious regional dishes are served, made from local products. Characteristic are the sandstone houses in the picturesque streets, where you imagine yourself in the Middle Ages. But with all the modern amenities you could wish for, such as a medical center, a pharmacy, an extensive supermarket, a hairdresser, an ATM, a petrol pump, a post office, a gallery, a tourist office, too many to mention.
The house is a perfect base for day trips, also to the larger towns such as Bergerac, Sarlat and Perigueux, a city that dates back to Roman times.
A variety of activities are organized in the summer for children of all ages in the area. In the sporting field there are many possibilities to indulge yourself. Golf enthusiasts will find no fewer than 5 beautifully landscaped golf courses within a radius of 25 kilometers. You can rent tennis in Ste Alvere itself and canoes in various places along the rivers Dordogne and Vezere. In short, the possibilities are numerous to relax!
