A quiet village......
Champagne-et-Fontaine is a municipality in the French department of Dordogne and has 425 inhabitants. The place is part of the Périgueux district.
Champagne-et-Fontaine is the birthplace of Philip I of France (May 23, 1052). He was king of France from August 4, 1060 to 1108
For about twenty years, Charles de Gaulle's family owned a country house there called La Ligerie, where de Gaulle spent his summers as a youngster. The de Gaulle family sold La Ligerie in 1920. The house is in Fontaine, about a 6-minute drive from Chez Nous.
There are nice markets near Champagne et Fontaine. A 12-minute drive away, on Saturday mornings in the middle of Villebois-Lavalette on Pl. des Halles a market with many regional products.
On the first Sunday of every month all year round, a very large flea market is held in the village of Verteillac (12 km).
