Les Palmiers

With a view over the valley of the Ardèche, this spacious provencal villa is part of the famous holiday park "Domaine les rives de lʻArdèche".

The house is extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. Colorful shutters keep the heat of the southern French sun out, all bedrooms have air conditioning, the whole house has a beautiful tiled floor.
In the garden a very large swimming pool (10x5 m), salt electrolysis, secured by an electric roll-up cover, and surrounded by a marble terrace. The pool closes in early October.

You can also swim in the large communal pool of the park, with a separate area for the little ones, or, of course, in the clean water of the Ardèche, which borders the park.
In the park there are also tennis courts, basketball court, football field, jeu de boules courts, table tennis tables and children's play equipment.

There is a bread service, but a bakery is also within walking distance - and it also has Dutch newspapers.

A few years ago, we, Tineke and Lex Spanjers, bought this beautiful villa in the beautiful park. After retiring last year, we had the time to make the garden and the swimming pool completely "to our liking", and especially the view over the surroundings has made it "a picture". In the accompanying photo you do not see us, but our daughter Lotte, who serves the "Salad Nicoise".

Location & tips

Additional information

The great attraction of the region is of course the river with its spectacular "Gorges" (= gaps).
A drive along various viewpoints is an experience, but there are also beautiful walks along the river. The most spectacular portion starts with the "pont d'arc," the huge, over millions of years the river formed by bridge over the Ardeche, a few km. past Vallon. Some 40 km. bii St.Martin away the rapids passed, and the Ardeche flows calmly to the Rhone.
Because the trip over the water is shorter than by road (winding) is the descent by canoe or kayak up to 25 km a day, or if you like 2 days, with overnight stay on the shore, but it is also possible 8, 12 or eg 20 km from the route to go. Especially if there is substantial water in the river, usually from April to June, and in the fall, the descent is a sensation. The current is stronger, so less tiring, and the rapids are a great sporting challenge. Information and canoe rentals in the park can be arranged by the administrator.
The clean water is the Ardeche also perfect for swimming and fishing. Plenty of trout!
For the children there is plenty to do: sail on the Ardeche, swimming in the Ardeche or the common pool of the park, play at the park, crocodile farm, llama farm (recommended), caves, donkey and horse riding, mountain climbing, via ferrata, quad, etc. On the neighboring camp is also organized everything, especially for older children: disco, karaoke, sports. At about 2 km. in the direction of Vallon is a nightclub, and a canoe evenementenhal.Tenslotte natural features, see the section above, and cycling, mountain biking, hiking.
Domaine "les rives de l'Ardeche" is a very luxurious and beautiful villa park, just a few years ago built, 3 km. Vallon-Pont d'Arc, also by bicycle or on foot is not too far.
The park borders the River Ardeche, with a ladder down easily accessible, to canoeing, fishing, swimming, or sunbathing on the beaches.
All villas are detached in the park, most have a private pool and therefore there is always plenty of rest at the swimming pool.
There are also 2 tennis courts, a bowling alley, volleyball / basketball court and playground for children.
The southern Ardeche has a climate similar to the neighboring Provence, ie hot, mostly dry summers, the vegetation is therefore typically Mediterranean, with all trees, palms, oleanders, lavender fields, sunflowers, and "wild" the dry, thorny bushes everywhere else that you encounter in southern europe. Spread in the "ardeche-meridional" you on your trips numerous medieval, often situated on a rock, villages, "les villages de Caractere", again as in Provence, but fortunately a little less "overflow". Balazuc and Vogue are some fine examples near your house.
The town is cozy and busy tourist season. Yet it is still doable for a place on a terrace or in a restaurant.
Every week there is a market, as indeed in many other places in the vicinity is the case, and 1x a week in high season a night market.
Somewhat hidden south of the current center an old, medieval part.
In the "Chateau", the old Hotel Louis XIII, a town hall, you can admire the tapestries, and furthermore there is the museum of the "Grotte Chauvet". This cave was only discovered in 1994, and, given the damage in Lascaux, not accessible to the public. Currently we are building an exact replica of the cave, more or less the same location (on the road to St.Remeze), completed in 2014. The paintings in this cave are 2x as old as those at Lascaux, and, remarkably: much nicer! Truly a sensational discovery, which still few know of. If you are interested there is a lot of Google to find, including a virtual tour.
one of the pleasures of a holiday In France, of course, the fun of eating, and especially the versatility and quality of French cuisine. Specialties of the region include: "cailette" a ball of minced pork, wrapped in varkensnet, goat cheese, especially served warm in a "salad ardéchoise", and a sweet chestnut puree, "creme de marron," mostly eaten as an appetizer. In season, wild boar (the hunting of this animal is abundant very popular in the region), and wild mushrooms, "CEPES". The wine from this part of Franrijk is (still) not very famous, but as elsewhere are working hard to improve, with great success! The quality of the "cotes de l'Ardeche", or "cotes du Vivarais" will surprise you.
this is a drawn map. If you click the image it is larger and clearer. Incidentally, the drawing is not entirely true: There are more such as berths, and the terrace on the south side is greater.
