Le Mazel is a magical house in the foothills of the Cévennes, near to Les Vans in the Ardèche.
Le Mazel is available to rent by the week (Saturday check in) from the end of May through September in a tiny hamlet in southern France, located just over an hour north of Nîmes and 40 minutes north of Alès.
At le Mazel, you are surrounded by the nature. If you are looking for city life, nightclubs or bustle this isn’t the house for you. If you prefer settling in by the pool with a good book, hiking through the rugged and beautiful foothills of the Cèvennes mountains, swimming in crystal-clear rivers, exploring local markets and then cooking what you’ve discovered, and letting the peace and majesty of the surrounding nature enchant you, then you will love le Mazel.
INSIDE
The ample living space of le Mazel is dominated by the main house which has a central living room with an enormous fireplace and a long dining table. The large kitchen is big enough to cook meals for a crowd and has a large table for meals or just hanging out. It is equipped with everything you will need, from pots and pans to dishes and glassware to feed 20 guests.
There are additional communal living spaces in the two apartments, one upstairs near the terrace over the pool and the other in the apartment next to the pool.
Overall the various parts of the house has 11 bedrooms (9 doubles, 2 twins) which can sleep a maximum 20 guests of any age. There are five full bathrooms plus a shower and WC next to the pool. Five of the double bedrooms and three bathrooms are in the main house, while the pool and upstairs apartments both have two doubles, one twin, and a full bathroom each.
It is rented as a whole, so you are never sharing spaces with other guests.
OUTSIDE
The 21-metre pool, long enough to swim laps, stretches along the west side of the house and disappears into a dramatic arch seemingly going into the house. Its ample terrace has sun loungers and plenty of space to lay a towel poolside.
Five further terraces surround the house so that you can find sunshine or shade at any time of the day. The pergola outside of the kitchen shades a small table for four. The fountain terrace outside of the main living room is sunny and inviting and has a green garden below the main level. The north terrace overlooks the valley over which le Mazel is perched. It has a dining table for six plus sofas and chairs for cocktails or just hanging out. One bedroom of the pool apartment has a private terrace overlooking the pool. Upstairs, the grand, covered terrace has a long table large enough for twenty guests and comfortable seating for lounging.
The grounds of the house stretch down into the valley and up the hill opposite the north terrace.
