Maison Archon

The spacious, quiet and secluded holiday home (150m2) is an old farmhouse with modern and extensive comfort, and is fully available to you. The site (1500 m2) is fenced and therefore safe for children and pets.
The old beams (poutres), the authentic barn (grange), the vaulted cellar (cave) and the attractive Godin wood stove give you the feeling of history. The kitchen with all amenities (including dishwasher, combination oven/microwave, refrigerator), separate toilet, bathroom with sink and walk-in shower, central heating in all (bed)rooms, internet and WiFi, and a washer/dryer give you the comforts of home. There is a cozy sitting room with a spacious corner sofa and various armchairs (including smart TV, in addition to TV channels, also Netflix, YouTube, etc., and an audio system), a dining area with an old wooden round dining table and a separate stylish garden room with round table and book/games cabinet.

On the ground floor there is also a spacious double bedroom with electrically adjustable slatted frames. All rooms on the ground floor have a beautiful view of the garden and the rolling surroundings. On the top floor you will find a spacious landing with sitting area and two double bedrooms, both with a beautiful view. All bedrooms have very good mattresses and beds and of course sufficient cupboard space for your belongings. On the top floor there is also a spacious 'playroom' with table tennis table and various indoor games. A baby cot and baby chair are available. You will find tilt-and-turn windows in all rooms and roller shutters on the outside.

The interior is warm, spacious, comfortable and cozy. The firewood is located near the wood stove. There is more firewood in the shed, as well as the barbecue and cushions for the various seating areas in the garden. You can also place your bicycles in the shed.

The garden - with grass, various fruit trees, (fruit) shrubs, a small vegetable garden and flowering plants and flowers - is equipped with various seating areas, a picnic table and dining table, a hammock, fire basket and separate loungers/beds for in the sun or in the sun. the shade under the trees or the parasol. From the garden you can enjoy the silence and have a beautiful view of the rolling surroundings, of the nearby forests and meadows with sheep and grazing cows.

The house is located on the edge of the hamlet of Archon on the border of the Aisne department (Picardy region, Hauts-de-France region) and the French Ardennes. Only 300 km from the Randstad (Netherlands). This protected nature reserve is called 'the Thiérache', a varied rolling landscape of meadows, fields, hedges, forests, streams and small hamlets. The area is very quiet, spacious and green with beautiful views. The area is very sparsely populated. From the garden you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets and the impressive starry sky in the evening. In short, a wonderful place to relax.

From the house you can take wonderful walking and cycling trips through the rolling landscape, where you will regularly see deer, birds of prey and squirrels. Trips by car or motorcycle along the quiet roads are of course also possible, including the fortified church route (églises fortifiées).
The region is rich in history. 3 km away in Rozoy-sur-Serre there are two bakeries, a (small and large) supermarket and a restaurant. You will also find electric charging stations opposite the town hall which you can use for a fee. One of the most beautiful villages in France, Parfondeval, is also 3 km away and has a restaurant/café with terrace.
There are beautiful hamlets nearby, and slightly further away are slightly larger towns (Vervins, Hirson). There are also fishing lakes in the area. For the sporty visitor, there are also mountain bike trails nearby. There are several restaurants in the area. There is an outdoor swimming pool in Chaourse (10 km). There is a swimming pool in Hirson (20 km) (indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, bowling alley). You can take kayak/canoe trips on the L'Oise River. There is a swimming lake with a beach in Signy Le Petit, and there is also a beautiful lake with water sports recreation in the French Ardennes (45 km away). The nearest golf course is in St Quentin.

Larger towns at some distance (up to 50 km) are Charleville-Mézières, Sedan, Rethel, Laon, St Quentin and Reims, all beautiful historic towns, with various shops, weekly markets and catering/terraces. Various courses are also regularly given in the region: painting, yoga, sculpting, pottery, etc. You must register for this in advance (if you would like further information about this, please call us). Horse riding is possible at various places near Archon. Reims, with its famous cathedral and champagne houses, can be reached within 45 minutes by car, Paris is about a 2-hour drive.
