In the mountains of Alta Val di Vara lies Santa Maria di Maissana, stretched out on the side of the mountain with beautiful and wide views towards Tuscany, the sea, the mountains of Carrara and the biological Valley of the Vara. The originally stone house is located in the "Borgo Antico" of this rustic village. The house was completely renovated 12 years ago and has a large terrace, garden and south-facing balcony.
Furthermore, the house consists of two parts connected by an interior corridor, over Via Macalle, the village street. The main house has a living room/kitchen on the top floor with a balcony and a shared square with the neighbors, where the front doors and the main stairs to the street are also located. The second floor consists of a bedroom, bathroom and staircase with wide authentic stairs. Subsequently, your own private terrace and the passage with stone stairs to the underlying terraces or garden.
The bottom floor is the original cantina, converted into an office + a small storage room and where the pellet boiler for radiators and hot water is located. This space has the possibility of conversion for a spacious extra bedroom,
The "tower", the second part of the house, through the hallway, indoors, across the street; consists of a bedroom on the top floor, a bathroom on the floor below with its own door to a courtyard with a lime tree and a cantina/storage on the ground floor with access from the street. This 2nd part can therefore also be used as a private apartment.
The whole has been playful and renovated while retaining original elements, such as natural stone "en vue", the stairs and arches (arcen) in the house and under the square. Furthermore, extensive use has been made of wood for ceilings, roof construction and all doors and windows in chestnut wood with double glazing. The roof is insulated with cork and there are four skylights.
The living room has an extra wood stove next to the central heating system.
