Villa el Cafetal

Our villa el Cafetal is located in the department of Antioquia in northern Colombia,
near the equator, at 6 degrees N and 40 minutes drive from the capital
Medellin. The nearest village, Guarne, is a lively, typical Colombian village with many small shops, bars and restaurants. 15 km away is Rionegro where various modern western shopping centers are located.
The center of Rionegro has its authentic South American atmosphere completely
preserve.

Villa El Cafetal is a newly built and modern furnished bungalow with comfort as you are used to at home in your own country. The villa is located 7 km outside the village of Guarne in a rural environment, in the middle of a small coffee plantation. Your holiday home is part of an enclave of 15 bungalows at a fifteen minute drive from the airport of Medellin. The residents of the other bungalows live here permanently and are very friendly and helpful.

You are here in the Andes mountains at an altitude of 2200m. Although you are not far from the equator, the climate is very pleasant due to the high altitude. 12
months per year it is here as a Dutch spring with temperatures during the day
from 20-25 degrees. That is why villa el Cafetal is also an excellent place to
hibernate.

The neighbors in the surrounding houses only speak Spanish, just like the caretaker Nicolas. This makes it an excellent place to practice your Spanish. Do not be hampered if you do not speak Spanish. With some hands and feet and (*CONTENT HIDDEN*) you come a long way.

A stay at villa El Cafetal allows you to live in Colombia from experience in a safe way, even if you are less adventurous laid out.

Around the house, apart from 400 coffee bushes, there are also various exotic ones
fruits that you can make the most delicious juices. If you do not know how,
then Nicolas knows what to do.

Our homeland is Colombia, we were born there, but are living in Europe for many years. We have built Villa el Cafetal for our own pleasure and comfort that we are used to in Europe. Starting from a hobby, we grow our own coffee around our house. If you want, we will teach you how the production works and you can help yourself with the harvest.

Additional information

Villa el Cafetal is a unique place to learn how coffee is produced. Wake up in the morning between coffee ... If you want, we combine a relaxed holiday with a visit to 3 coffee plantations and you will experience all that comes before the brown liquid is in your cup. You can help harvest the harvest, separate the beans from the berries, dry them and then skim them. You learn how to burn your own coffee. You do not get it any better! Of course this is accompanied by a Colombian lunch and other delights. You go with Nicolas to visit the retired coffee farmer Don Manuel, a visit that you will never forget. You also visit our large plantation in Montebello. An adventurous ride of several hours, of course under supervision, on a dirt road, deep in the Andes. At the coffee finca in Montebello we stay in the house next to the benificiadero where the coffee is dried and sorted. Of course we also help with the harvest there. At the end of your holiday you will get a fair amount of self-harvested coffee. If you want your suitcase full! Most of the coffee is harvested from October to January. From February to April there is a second, smaller harvest. In the intervening months there is also coffee to harvest, albeit in smaller quantities.
