A good deal on your holiday home in Tyrol

Tyrol is known in all corners of the globe and is one of the best-known winter sports areas in Europe, perhaps in the entire world. The entire region extends across Austria and Italy and is breath-takingly beautiful in every respect. The mountains, lakes, landscapes and views make Tyrol a fantastic holiday destination for people of all ages. In winter, you can go skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing to your heart’s content. In spring and summer, you can go on wonderful walks, and Tyrol is also increasingly popular for a cycling holiday. The friendly and hospitable locals make a holiday in Tyrol even more perfect. Micazu offers you a choice of various apartments, bungalows and other holiday cottages in Tyrol, and you book directly with the owner for added convenience and a better deal.

Nature, culture and art in the mountains

Tyrol is mainly known for its splendid natural beauty, but of course, there’s plenty more to see and do. Take a city trip to Lienz for example, a lovely old town with many medieval buildings, such as the Romanesque parochial church of Liebburg and Bruck Castle that dates back to the 13th century. The beautiful university city of Innsbruck is a must-see in your Tyrolean holiday, and one of the highlights is the Fürstenburg, a 15th-century castle with a famous balcony covered with a golden roof. Another highlight is the Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens, an enchanting world filled with crystal art and other creations.

Fun facts about Tyrol

  • Yodelling is one of the oldest forms of communication around. In times gone by, yodelling was primarily a way to pass on messages in the mountains.
  • ‘Schlutzkrapfen’ are a delicacy from the South Tyrol: pastry envelopes sautéed in butter and filled with spinach.
  • The origins of the name Tyrol are shrouded in mystery. Some say that the name is derived from the German deity named Tyr, whilst others believe that the name is a reference to the Rhaeto-Romance word Teriòl, which means ‘path through the mountains’.
  • Traditions and popular festivals play an important role in Tyrolean culture. A typical popular celebration is the ‘Almabtrieb’ at the end of the summer.
