Good to know about Salzburgerland
- The name of Salzburgerland is a reference to salt (‘Salz’) mining in the region.
- The official, shortened name of the Salzburgerland is Salzburg. To avoid confusion with the capital of the same name, the suffix ‘-erland’ was added.
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart came from Salzburg (1756-1791).
- In 1927, Salzburg’s first cable car, the Schmittenhöhebahn, was installed. It was the fifth cable car to be constructed in Austria.
