A recent archaeological discovery has uncovered a 3,000-year-old moat from Phoenician times, about two kilometers from the sea.
Cartagena has a long history as an important port city. One of the most important witnesses from the Roman period is the Roman Theater Cartagena.
Just above San Javier on the Mar Menor is San Pedro del Pinatar. Lo Pagan beach is known for its mud baths. Here you see people smearing themselves with mud, which has a very medicinal effect.
