Quinta Levegada is located in central Portugal on the edge of a small authentic village with 800 inhabitants. It is a large detached house with private pool on one hectare of land with almost 100 olive trees and fruit trees. It is an ideal accommodation for families and groups of friends. Despite its size, it is also a wonderfully comfortable house for 2 to 4 people who love nature, peace and comfort.
The house is located in nature in an oasis of peace. An hour's drive away is the beach on the Atlantic coast and the other side on the mountains, the Serra Estrela, where you can take beautiful walks or swim in mountain lakes. Situated on a ridge with unobstructed views it has stunning views of the mountains and a fantastic sunset every evening.
The house
The house is partly self-sufficient with its own well (no drinking water) and heat pipes on the roof for heating the water. On cold days, the house is heated by the wood stove in the living room which also heats the radiators.
The interior is modern, bright and spacious and equipped with every comfort. Everything is on one level. The living room with open kitchen has a spacious sitting area and a cupboard full of books and games for hours of entertainment with friends or family. Running the length of the living room are patio doors leading out to the porch with mountain views. The open kitchen with cooking island is spacious and equipped with everything you need to cook and bake together. In the summer months you can step onto the veranda through the patio doors and everything can be served immediately.
The 4 (2-pers) bedrooms are bright and spacious with double wardrobes in each room for storing clothes and personal items. The two largest rooms and large bathroom are located behind the living room, where you will also find the separate (3rd) toilet. The two smaller rooms and small bathroom are located at the front of the house near the main entrance.
The veranda at the front runs the length of the house and two bedrooms also open onto this. The canopy keeps the house nice and cool in the summer and is a wonderful place to find the coolness yourself and in the evening it is a beautiful place to eat with the setting sun. If it gets too hot, the canopy in front of the house on the grass is the ideal place.
On the back terrace, surrounded by tall trees, the sun rises in the morning (a nice spot for breakfast) and in the afternoon there is shade, which is a wonderful place to have a drink on a hot day. The ping-pong table can also be set up here for a competitive game with family or friends.
The grounds and swimming pool
The grounds surrounding the house consist of several terraces with grass, olive trees and more than 40 fruit trees where you can pick fresh fruit every day. Everywhere you can put a chair or hang a hammock to enjoy the shade of the trees, the tranquility of nature and the sounds of the birds. On one of the terraces under the house, surrounded by olive trees, is the saltwater swimming pool. The pool is 12m x 4m, long enough to swim laps.
The immediate surroundings
The village is within walking distance of the house and has a café, bakery and small shop for the main groceries. In the nearby village at 2.5 km distance you will find an ATM, pharmacy, bakery, small supermarket and butcher, There are also a number of authentic Portuguese restaurants.
Things to do in the area
The environment is rustic, authentic with lots of nature and small villages. There is still little tourism so it is nice and quiet. You can walk and swim in the river and canoe, try local dishes in the small local restaurants and taste wine in one of the famous wineries of the region (Dão).
Drive a little further
A 45-minute drive away is the old university city of Coimbra, the university was inspiration for the Harry Potter books and really worth a visit with a beautiful library. The city of Viseu is also a 45-minute drive away.
100 km to the west is the Atlantic coast with beautiful, wide beaches where you can visit coastal villages and eat delicious fish. At 100 km to the east you drive into the largest nature reserve in Portugal, the Serra da Estrela, where you can take beautiful walks through forests, past waterfalls and through authentic villages. The highest point, Torre, is at 2000 m.
