Quinta do Retiro is located in a small, secluded valley with a terraced landscape and covers approximately 14 hectares. The site is located at an altitude of 350 meters just outside the village of Covas in the region of Beira Litoral (Central Portugal).
This typical Portuguese farmhouse has been rebuilt into a small-scale holiday estate with four holiday homes and a small nature campsite. In the middle of the site, within walking distance of the holiday homes, is a beautifully landscaped ecological swimming pool for shared use that is filled with water from our own well.
Due to natural filtering (filter bed with stones, plants and a few small fish) this is clear swimming water. Next to the pool is a sun terrace with a bar (self-service). For the children there is also a playground with sandpit, swing, slide and trampoline. On the quinta there are many fruit trees, olives and grapevines and a river with some rocks and waterfalls cuts through the terrain.
This undiscovered region with lovely, but also rugged and hilly area is a paradise for peace seekers, hikers and nature lovers. The mountain ridge and Serra da Estrela National Park are about 30 minutes away by car. In the area you will find many authentic villages such as the slate village of Piódão or you can visit one of the typical Portuguese markets such as Tábua (approx. 10km) and Arganil (approx. 20km). A visit to the student city of Coimbra or a day trip to Mira on the Atlantic coast (approx. 95km) is also worthwhile.
On the most beautiful enclosed fields on our site are our fully equipped family tents in the summer months. You do not have to share this with other campers, so we guarantee you maximum space, peace and privacy. The family tent is actually a 6-person tent, but we have set up the tent for -standard- 4 people, leaving a lot of extra space. Optionally, a larger version is available for more people. For larger families, we can easily make three sleeping cabins or - at no extra cost - add a dome tent, giving you even more space and comfort during your holiday.
The family tent has a 2-person sleeping place for the parents with slatted base, a good mattress, top layer, fitted sheet + duvet and for the children we work with thick, foldable foam mattresses with fitted sheet and sleeping bag.
The luxurious sanitary building with spacious (family) showers, toilets, dishwashing facilities and washing machine is within walking distance. Near the tents are cold water points with an outdoor shower and there is a 16 amp. electricity connection.
