Quinta do Retiro is located in a small, secluded valley with a terraced landscape and covers approximately 9 hectares. The site is located at an altitude of 350 meters just outside the village of Covas in the region of Beira Litoral (Central Portugal).
This typical Portuguese farmhouse has been rebuilt into a small-scale holiday estate with four holiday homes and a small nature campsite. In the middle of the site, within walking distance of the holiday homes, is a beautifully landscaped ecological swimming pool for shared use that is filled with water from our own well. Due to natural filtering (filter bed with stones, plants and a few small fish) this is clear swimming water.
Next to the pool is a sun terrace with a bar (self-service). For the children there is also a playground with sandpit, swing, slide and trampoline. On the quinta there are many fruit trees, olives and grapevines and a river with some rocks and waterfalls cuts through the terrain.
This undiscovered region with lovely, but also rugged and hilly area is a paradise for peace seekers, hikers and nature lovers. The mountain ridge and Serra da Estrela National Park are about 30 minutes away by car. In the area you will find many authentic villages such as the slate village of Piódão or you can visit one of the typical Portuguese markets such as Tábua (approx. 10km) and Arganil (approx. 20km). A visit to the student city of Coimbra or a day trip to Mira on the Atlantic coast (approx. 95km) is also worthwhile. In the months of November to April, a sauna is available for guests of the quinta. This sauna can be used both collectively and privately.
Casa Oliveirinha is a very spacious, attractively furnished rural holiday home with (shared) swimming pool. The house offers a perfect sun position in both summer and winter. The holiday home is built in traditional Portuguese style on the upper terrace of the quinta. From the shaded veranda you have a beautiful view over the river, the lower terraces and the valley.
This holiday home has been built with all the necessary amenities to also make a stay for wheelchair users and disabled people possible.
