Our private and romantic Aitong Crater House is secluded in the bush on the edge of an ancient crater, near the Masai village of Aitong and in the heart of one of the most exciting wilderness ecosystems in Africa, The Masai Mara and the surrounding Conservancies. It is located at an altitude of 2000 meters, overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara. It is part of the Pardamat Conservancy and overlooks the various other Mara Conservancies (Lemek, Mara North, Motorogi, Olare Orok, etc..), and also the Siria or Oloololo Escarpment (Rift). The Mara River with its hippos and crocodiles and wildebeest/wildebeest crossings is a few kilometers away.
We built the house here not only because it is a beautiful place with a romantic breathtaking view and an incredible "calming" privacy and silence (except for the nature sounds) but also because of the incredible rich fauna and flora.
Over the past 20 years we have visited almost all the game parks and nature reserves of East Africa and especially Kenya and we find this place atop the crater almost second to none if not magical in terms of abundance of wildlife and ecosystems.
The area directly around the house has, in our experience, more wildlife than the famous Masai Mara reserve, which is about a 45 minute drive away. And even better, this area has something that you can't find in the Masai Mara, which is the Masai people with their respect for and wisdom of nature and wildlife.
We have Masai people working for us in this house and in our activities such as game drives or nature walks.
There are several airstrips nearby at about 30 minutes.
Since we have just started opening our own intimate home for our guests and because we have no idea yet how it will work for both our guests and ourselves, we want to start with rates that will allow us to cover our costs. The first visitors will therefore be lucky enough to pay less on the one hand, but on the other hand, we ask them to help us improve our setup with constructive advice and ideas.
