Our house, Gli Archi, is in the middle of Italy ;, close to the city of Perugia and Lake Trasimeno. The studio is part of the annex. It has a fully furnished and independent guest apartment (30 m2), which is also suitable for wheelchair users. This studio has a sitting area with (good and spacious) sofa bed and armchair, a kitchenette with fridge and 2 electric hobs, a microwave / oven / grill, a dining table with 2 chairs and a TV / radio. Right next to this room is a spacious bathroom (with electrically heated radiator), which has been adapted for wheelchair users. The studio has its own terrace, facing south, with a beautiful view. There is no central heating, but there is an ecological pellet stove that can heat the room perfectly, so that the studio can also be inhabited throughout the year.
The house is situated on more than 0.5 ha of private land and has a large ornamental garden with lots of seating and a swimming pool (6x12m)., A vegetable garden and an orchard. If you like nature and culture, you will immediately feel at home here. At the pool you can see the mountains in the distance. In the morning you can hear the birds singing and scratching in the rain gutter and during the day you see them everywhere, even when they take a dip in the pool. The butterflies flutter everywhere cheerfully and the bees buzz as if it is an orchestra and together with all kinds of other insects they ensure that our fruit trees make their fruit in the spring. And in the twilight you can come across our "house path" or the hedgehogs who come curiously to see if there is anything to be gained. In every season you can admire the colors of nature and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. What we do at Gli Archi is to respect nature, respect it and protect it. We do this through, among other things, an environmentally conscious household. We use solar energy to produce electricity and to heat the house in the winter and the swimming pool in the summer. In the vegetable garden and in the orchard we only use biodegradable pesticides. The guest rooms are non-smoking. With our small-scale setup, we offer you hospitality and personal attention with respect for your privacy. You have your own place in the garden. On arrival we would like to invite you in the evening for a welcome meal.
We, Vera Wittenberg and Leo van der Staak, have lived in Perugia since 2006. Gli Archi was once a farmhouse, with stables at the ground floor and a living area on the first floor. Characteristic are the masonry arches in the original stables, hence the name "Gli Archi" (the arches) We have tried with the restoration to keep the soul of the house and to revitalize it. This means also letting others enjoy this place. We look forward to your arrival!

Our house is situated at a road without through traffic, approx 10 km from the centre of Perugia, the regional capital of Umbria. A path of some 50 m leads from the road to the house overlooking a valley with hills in the distance. The surroundings are very calm and peaceful, and at the same time, staying here, you can also enjoy the advantages of the medium sized city of Perugia, a (international) university town with many attractions. The historic centre is beautiful and the city boasts several museums (including the Galleria Nazionale), splendid shops, good restaurants and a modern university hospital: 15 minutes by car from the house. You can play golf on an 18-hole course near Perugia. For day-to-day shopping the nearby villages have supermarkets, a mere 10 minutes in the car.
Umbria is known as the green heart of Italy. The region is famed for its splendid green nature: forests, rolling hills and high mountains, valleys large and small, vineyards and olive groves everywhere: all this and towns and villages rich in history and culture. Think of cities like Assisi and Spello (each of them 30 km away), Spoleto (80 km), Todi (35 km), Orvieto (70 km). Even Rome is not all that far away: 165 km. And then we have not even mentioned the beautiful and fascinating renowned cities of Siena, Florence, Arezzo, Cortona and Montepulciano. All within reach of a couple of hours. For water sports, Lago di Trasimeno is a mere 20 km away.
