Kavousi Cottages Petra

Welcome to an unforgettable journey to a time when holidays were still authentic and relaxing!
In the traditional lively village of Kavousi, on the north-east coast of Crete, you can enjoy the peace and quiet in 'Η Πετρα' (the stone). Η Πετρα is located opposite our other cottage, Ο Σταβλος, at the end of a street that forms a small square, which the villagers affectionately call πετρο τηγάνι (stone frying pan).

The cottage was completely renovated in 2023 with the help of only Cretan craftsmen. Local traditional materials have been used; with respect for the traditional architectural style, but without compromising on comfort. Even our furniture is handmade by a local family business that has been making wooden furniture for generations.

The cottage is approximately 24 m2 and, in addition to a terrace at the front, also has a lovely roof terrace with a pergola where you can see the sea at Tholos on one side and the Thripti mountains on the other.

You enter the cottage in the living and sleeping area, with inverter air conditioning to cool it in the summer or heat it on cooler days. At the back you will find the kitchen. The traditional fireplace has been preserved and now accommodates the electric stove. Next to the kitchen is also the very spacious bathroom with rain shower and handmade natural stone sink.

Kavousi is a traditional Greek village. Because not many tourists come here, you stay among the villagers and the village is lively in summer and winter. The restaurants that you will find along the main road and on the village square are open all year round. This of course also applies to the bakery and supermarket, which are within walking distance.

Kavousi is a perfect base to explore the eastern part of Crete. Agios Nikólaos, Mochlos, Sitia, Zákros, Ierápetra… It's all within easy reach. Would you rather keep it a little closer to home? In the immediate vicinity you can visit various archaeological sites, walk part of the E4 route, admire one of the oldest olive trees in Crete, or enjoy a day at the beautiful sandy beach of Tholos, less than 2 kilometers away.

In short; something for everyone on this - in our opinion - most beautiful part of Crete.
