Kavousi Cottages O Stavlos

Welcome to an unforgettable journey to a time when holidays were still authentic and relaxing!

In the traditional lively village of Kavousi, on the north-east coast of Crete, you can enjoy the peace and quiet in Ο Στάβλος (the stable). Ο Στάβλος is located opposite our other cottage, Η Πετρα, at the end of a street that forms a small square. This is affectionately called Πέτρο Τηγάνι (stone frying pan) by the villagers.

The cottage was completely renovated in 2023 with the help of only Cretan craftsmen. Local traditional materials have been used, with respect for the traditional architectural style, but without compromising on comfort. Even our furniture is handmade by a local family business that has been making wooden furniture for generations.

O Stavlos consists of two separate buildings of approximately 24 m2 each. The living room and fully equipped kitchen can now be found in the former stable.
The old tree trunks, which until recently formed the ceiling, have been partly preserved. The former living area now houses the bedroom, with a double bed and the bathroom with a lovely rain shower. Both rooms have inverter air conditioning to cool or heat the room.

At the front of the apartment is a spacious terrace where you can sit in the shade for most of the day. Do you still want to enjoy the sun? This is possible on the terrace at the back with a view of the Thripti Mountains. Would you rather look at the sea? Then move to a lovely lounger on the roof terrace.

Kavousi is a traditional Greek village. Because not many tourists come here, you stay among the villagers and the village is lively in summer and winter. The restaurants that you will find along the main road and on the village square are open all year round. This of course also applies to the bakery and the supermarket, which are within walking distance. Kavousi is a perfect base for exploring the eastern part of Crete. Agios Nikólaos, Mochlos, Sitia, Zákros, Ierápetra… It's all within easy reach.

Would you rather keep it a little closer to home? In the immediate vicinity you can visit various archaeological sites, walk part of the E4 route, admire one of the oldest olive trees in Crete, or enjoy a day at the beautiful sandy beach of Tholos, less than 2 kilometers away.

In short; something for everyone on this - in our opinion - most beautiful part of Crete.
