Gehlberg is a nice mountain village in the heart of the Thuringian Forest. It is located at an altitude of approximately 700 metres on the northern slopes of this beautiful area. This makes it one of the snowiest places in the area during the winter months. In November, December, January and February, Gehlberg changes into a winter wonderland. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can choose from numerous beautiful cross-country trails through untouched nature. In spring and summer Gehlberg is a popular destination for a walking or cycling holiday. A holiday home in Gehlberg is a good choice the whole year round. This also goes for families and larger groups, since you can also book group accommodation in Gehlberg through Micazu.

Walking and cycling

Beautiful walking and cycling routes have been set out in the green valleys of the Wilder Gera and the Zhamer Gera. One of the most beautiful is located at an altitude of 943 metres near the village of Schmücke, two kilometres south of Gehlberg. One of Germany's most famous long-distance hiking trails passes through here: the 168-kilometre long Rennsteig. This path runs from the town of Hörschel, near the beautiful town of Eisenbach, all the way to Blankenstein on the border with the Czech Republic. So don’t forget your walking shoes and enjoy the lovely surroundings. The Gehlberg area also has plenty to offer for a holiday with kids. Tierpark Suhl, a small zoo with fun tours for the little ones, is highly recommended.
