Courcenay Estate – a rare place where peace, luxury and your dog come together.
Hidden in the green hills of the Beaujolais Vert is our historic estate with two stylish gîtes. Old stone walls, silence and views of greenery. Surrounded by 11 hectares of peace and space, life here automatically feels lighter — a place to slow down, enjoy and get away from it all.
Landgoed Courcenay is also a great place for your dog. A quiet and safe environment where he can enjoy space and nature at his own pace. No crowds, no mandatory socializing — just out together, browsing along the trails and then resting contentedly.
The Beaujolais Vert is rugged, green and surprisingly versatile. A region of forests, winding roads and views. At the same time, you will find authentic French villages, castles and a beautiful abbey here. And within an hour you are in the culturally and culinarily leading Lyon.
What does a day here feel like?
You wake up in a stylish gîte. The morning light falls in. It is quiet, wonderfully quiet. Coffee with a fresh croissant. Your dog stretching out as if he has lived here for years. You can walk straight from the estate into nature. No traffic, no planning — just hills, forests, and space. Later you float in the pool, read a good book or just do... nothing at all.
And then night falls... the crickets in the background, warm evening air, the sun is setting, a good glass of wine and your dog is next to you...
This is vacation.
Experience it for yourself. Discover Courcenay Estate.
Courcenay estate.
A French domain that was already mentioned in 887. There was once a castle here. It didn't fully survive the centuries — but the stones proved to be of excellent quality and now make up a large part of the house. Recycling avant la lettre. For centuries, taxes were levied and justice was administered here. Today we mainly raise wine glasses. The atmosphere has improved considerably.
With 11 hectares of private land, space is not a marketing term here. The first neighbors live at a comfortable distance. The rest is included. View too.
In 2025, we, Richard and Marloes, opened the doors of this estate with one clear idea: to create a place where luxury is self-evident, the atmosphere relaxed, and where your dog doesn't have to keep looking at home while you celebrate the good life.
Two gîtes. Nothing more.
We deliberately chose small scale: Gîte Boyar and Gîte Dubhan. That's all. Each gîte has:
• Two bedrooms
• Two bathrooms with walk-in shower
• An attractive living room
• A fully equipped kitchen
• A spacious, private and fenced terrace
The terraces are fenced 1.5 meters high and are located in our enclosed courtyard. Safe for your dog. Relaxing for you. No spontaneous voyages of discovery to the vast forests.
Dogs: not only allowed, but desired.
Yes, you can bring your dog. Yes, several.
In principle, a maximum of three per gîte. Do you have a larger pack? Get in touch — we're flexible, as long as it's not a sled dog expedition.
We have deliberately created a safe, luxurious environment where dogs feel just as at home as their owners.
In the library and by the swimming pool, they stay outside. Even the most charming four-legged friend sometimes has to accept that not everything revolves around him.
Are you coming without a dog? Also perfect.
The only risk: that when you leave you realize that next time you have to take one with you.
A place for peace seekers
We have a minimum age of 15 years. Not out of strictness, but out of love for the atmosphere. This is a place for bon vivants. Where time slows down. Where you hear what you think again.
No mass tourism. No entertainment team. No hassle. Just quality. And breathing space.
Groceries & Burgundian life
Ten minutes' drive away are Thizy-les-Bourgs and Cours-la-Ville, with a supermarket and a couple of fine restaurants.
Do you want to go bigger? In Roanne (25 minutes) you'll find everything from hypermarchés to gourmet temples. Yes, including the legendary three-star restaurant Troisgros. For when you really want to pamper yourself.
And further?
We are happy to explore the region by road bike, mountain bike, hiking shoe or on horseback — and are happy to share our best tips.
But honestly? You can also just grab a book and settle down at our heated swimming pool of 12 x 6 meters.
Sometimes the most exclusive plan is... No plan.
Are you coming without a dog? Also very welcome.
However, you may hear a bark every now and then. Think of it as national background music. Dogs are not allowed in the library and at the swimming pool. Even four-legged friends need rules sometimes.
So...
Do you want peace and quiet? Space? Style without stiffness? And your dog just next to you at the table (well, under the table)? Then chances are that this is your place.
Book that week.
Or two.
We take care of the silence.
And for a cold glass of wine on arrival. 🍷
