An emblematic figure of the Barcarès, is a former liner built in 1931 by the Dunkirk shipyards. Originally named "Normannia", it was designed for the German company Hapag-Lloyd. With its 140 meters in length and its capacity to accommodate nearly 1200 passengers, it has long operated connections between Germany and South America.

During the Second World War, the Lydia was requisitioned by the German Navy and used as a hospital ship. After the war, it resumed its passenger transport activity until 1967, when it was withdrawn from service.

It was in 1967 that the Lydia was acquired by the commune of Barcarès, in the south of France. It was then moored on the shores of the marine lake, becoming an emblematic place of the seaside resort. Transformed into an open-air discotheque, it welcomed many night owls in search of entertainment.
