The land of cream, butter, cider and calvados, of half-timbered houses and broad invasion beaches. The land in the ninth century it was ravaged by the Vikings that the Frankish king the gift but they did. Thus, one in 911 Hrolf the walker, also called Rollon, the Duke of the area around the Seine, which quickly expanded by conquest to the present Normandy. The Vikings were not only able to deal with boats and weaponry but also with teams. The area was fertile and had a few centuries the wealthiest of the French country. Prosperous still. Especially when you're limited to agrarische.Een beautiful scenery glides past you, with hills of just the right size, artistic cast down farms and apple orchards where cows graze naturally. What a joy it is when stereotypes come true. The right kind of cow, white with reddish brown spots, give milk for cheese, cream and butter. Think of cheeses such as Camembert, Livarot, Pont l'Eveque, Brillat-Savarin, Bondard, Pave d'Auge, Petit-Lisieux, Neufchatel and-Fromage de Monsieur. And the butter and cream can be a real appellation d'origine contrôlée, like that of lsigny. Here you can saturate with saturated fats until you can say no more pap. But it is also true that fish is just incredibly good for you. The Normans keep that in balance by fish with cream to prepare.
Besides dairy Normandie has a specialty apples. Rather, some tasty things that are made from apples. And funny enough as it is about a children's drink, while the second derivative preferably kept out of reach of little hands. It's Cider and Calvados. Cider is made from apples that you can not and want to eat. Sour and bitter and a nasty, thick skin. It seems that the method of apples to make an alcoholic drink in the eleventh century was developed in northern Spain, two centuries later to gain a foothold in Normandy and Brittany. Indeed, regions where the vine does not. The apples are harvested between October and December, crushed and pressed. And unlike wine, where yeast cells further work, then put the bacteria suikersin the juice into alcohol and koolzuur.Als your cider into bottles doing on time, keep so within the bubbles and froth the drink merrily in the glass . These corked cider hot cider bouche. And the cider wanneerje burned, you get calvados, popularly sometimes called Calva. Consumption, however, invariably leads to incompetence in many areas. Including participating in traffic, to say nothing of worse.
Falaise is the nearby (10 min) large fortified town, where we usually do our shopping. In France, the small traders driven out by the big supermarkets. In Menil-Vin, you'll find no more baker (or in the near Menil-Hermei). In Falaise find the big supermarkets: the Super-U, the Champion and the smaller Ed (also open on Sunday morning!) And numerous specialty stores (bakeries, caterers, butchers). Saturdays are market days (open and covered) where all the specialties of the region can get: the finest cheeses from Normandy (including of course the most famous: Camembert, Pont-L'Evêque and Livarot), cream fraiche, organic meat and vegetables. The market square in summer all kinds of activities. Other attractions, the medieval castle of the famous (infamous?) Guillaume le Conquerant-Musée des Automates (which takes you back to the beginning of the 20th century with its slot machines) - Musee Aout '44, that you thoroughly informed about the bloody struggle for "La Poche the Falaise" - Musée André Lemaître, dedicated to the painter from Falaise (1909-1995), about 90 of his paintings (all works 4000) are exhibited here. - Château de la Fresnaye (17th century), where summer diverse contemporary exhibitions are held-Notre-Dame de Guibray, important Romanesque church with a beautiful Parizot organ, which in the summer months several organ concerts are georganiseerd.Kijk for more info on: http://www.falaise-tourisme. com /
Our house is just in the Orne département, named after the river that runs through this area stroomt. In Pont d'Ouilly, a town 10 minutes away, you can rent canoes and kayaks for an idyllic ride on the river or an adventurous trip by numerous rapids. For more info: Pont d'Ouilly are also nice to eat or make a dance on Sunday afternoon on the banks of the Orne, the famous "guinguette". Or on Friday at the water-frites saucisse eat here during the popular karaoke nights .... Pont d'Ouilly is one of the nicer towns in the Orne, not least because the river runs through the town. The ride to it is already a special beauty, head toward Les Loges Saulces, go to the first (sharp) crossing to the left, then continue towards Rapilly, drive straight at the intersection and enjoy (especially in the evenings) breathtaking views . At the next T-junction and then along the banks of the Orne right towards Pont d'Ouilly. It is also advisable to have a detailed map of Normandy to buy: just the smaller roads are worth it ....!

Normandy has no less than 600 km coastline, with some pieces with evocative names such as the Côte d'Alabaster (Alabaster Coast), the Côte Fleurie (Flower coast, Deauville and Honfleur) and the Côte de Nacre (pearl coast), where the sand and the sea shine in hues ranging from silver blue to gray green. Different types of coasts are clearly distinguishable, towering cliffs, beaches resort, not to mention the invasion beaches.
At the foot of the Pont de Normandie is Honfleur, a former refuge for pirates and sailors, today the city for fishing boats, writers, painters and other artists of the sea, the buildings and try to capture the look in their work.

In the Orangery houses a museum with a top collection miniatures. In addition, an exhibition of dog beds / homes from the 17th to 19th centuries. In the garden you can have fun with surprising 'jeux d'eau' and labirynthen.
A gift from the earth and water, and people. Due to its special location, the Mont Saint-Michel by the chronicler and peigrim preferred over any other Benedictine abbey. The sea washes nowadays rarely the fortifications and the bay is gradually silted up. From a distance, the buildings form part of the rock itself, then falls for half-timbered houses, stone walls, green gardens and the fortress abbey on Mont top.De, a granite rock, towering 170 meters above the sand plains. The hardness of his stone has enabled him to the Tomb and Elaine, the island in the neighborhood, to cope with the erosion of the sea. On its steep slopes has been an abbey and a city want to build. To such an enterprise to a successful end to bring the human heart had a covenant with the temporal power of the abbey. This huge piece was a challenge for the architects. The builders have done a technical feat, when one indenkt what it means to have with the then available resources buildings of this size on the rock down zetten.De Mont Saint-Michel is ± 110 km from Caen and in a half hour drive to bereiken.http :/ /

Geweldige vakantie gehad in la gymnopedie. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. Een plek waar je heerlijk tot rust kan komen maar ook zo de' drukte' van de stad op kan zoeken.
