A peaceful, relaxing, holiday home (bungalow) with its own unheated, alarmed swimming pool situated on a private domain just a few minutes drive from the market town of Chalais in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Charente.
Comprising of a spacious air-conditioned lounge area, 4 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms (2 showers and 1 bath) and an outdoor dining area, the property is perfectly suited to large family and friends groups up to 8 guests. However, consideration will be given , on request, for a discount where the booking is for 6 or less.
There is ample parking on the driveway for multiple vehicles. The high vantage point of the property provides wonderful views towards Chalais and its chateau.
There is a covered, outside dining area with a coal BBQ and a generous dining table suitable for 8. The decked terrace also has 8 sun-loungers and a sun parasol. The terrace faces south-west so has the sun throughout the day culminating in some gorgeous sunsets.
The Domain provides free use of two tennis courts, a table tennis table, and a small play area suitable for younger children. There are 2 tennis racquets, balls and a table tennis set in the house for guests use.
The local area:
The local town of Chalais, just a 5 min drive away, has 2 supermarkets (Intermarche and Lidl) and holds a busy market every Monday morning.
The Chateau de Chalais on the outskirts of the town can be seen from the house and is open for afternoon tours.
A 16 min drive will bring you to one of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France', the very pretty Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with its famous subterranean church and beautiful sandy river beach with excellent safe swimming, in the River Dronne together with kayak and paddle board hire available.
In addition, a 13 min drive will bring you to the Circuit de Haute Saintonage famous for its motorsports, & bike racing as well as go-karting.
Further afield:
You can visit the beautiful towns of Angouleme (50min) with its comic-strip museum and medieval streets and the vibrant city of Bordeaux (1hr) . The famous wine town of St Emillion (50min) makes for a perfect day trip for wine connoisseurs. Angouleme and Bordeaux are also accessible by train from the station in Chalais.
The glorious beaches of the Atlantic (Royan, St Palais sur Mer, Saint-Georges-de-Didonne) are approximately 90mins away.
